My girlfriends computer keeps shutting down...
It only seems to shut off when she is playing Star Wars the Old Republic.

I have replaced the Ram thinking maybe that was the problem, also replaced the power supply.

But it still shuts down without warning, just like you unplug it... the funny thing is when you reboot the computer it doesn't come to the shut down improperly screen.

Anyone have any clue what might be going on?

Thanks in advance!

The system is,
MSI Intel P67 (B3) ATX DDR3 1066 Intel
Intel Core i5-2500K Processor
8gb Kingston Ram (replaced)

Hi, just joined the forums and I have a question.

I'm looking to update my video card and processor in my computer (built it myself about 6-7 years ago) but I don't know how I should go about it. I've gotten away from how everything has progressed since I built this desktop and I'm having trouble figuring out what I can update it to without getting overly expensive.

I wanted to get a decent video card for around $150 and was thinking of getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161337 this one. Don't know how much better that will be than what I currently have though.

I also, as aforementioned, want to update my processor, but I don't even know where to begin on that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Here's my current system specs. If you need more let me know:

I have 3 Radeon HD video cards. Going to sell 2 of them, the 3rd ends up in a system I'm putting together for one of my grandsons.

The cards are a Powercolor HD6790 1Gb (4 months old), a Sapphire HD6850 1Gb (15 months old) and an MSI Twin Frozr II HD6950 2Gb 13 months old

Asking $90 for the 6790, $100 or BO for the 6850 and $150/BO for the 6950. Price includes shipping. I have the box for the 6950. The 6790 and 6850 require 1 PCIe 6-pin power connector, the 6950 has 2.
A 500 watt minimum power supply is suggested for all 3.

I accept PayPal and if you are anywhere from Milford to Nashua/Manchester to Portsmouth NH I can meet you as my job has me all over southern NH.

So got me a copy if Whs 2011 to upgrade from whs v1. Wanted to install it on an old 74 GB raptor but accidentally installed on a different drive. So wiped everything put in the correct drive and start over. no matter what I tried would not install on the raptor. So back to square one. Finally get it all set up and install all the old drive s in the pool. I had all my data backed up on a 1.5 tb drive @ 750 GB or more of photos movies music etc. I copy everything from the backup drive to the pool add the drive to the pool and then make the mistake of formatting the drive after adding it. It wiped out the entire pool:( thankfully I have all the original photos. 325GB of the past 7 years. I lost half of my 15GB of music. 200 GB of backed up movies and 50GB or so of other stuff. Running recovery software now to see if I can get anything back. Ugh

Since Intel launched Sandy Bridge in Jan 2011, it’s been a year.
In April 2012, Intel released LGA115 socket, code name is Ivy Bridge.
CPU manufacturing from 32nm 2nd Core I improves to 22nm 3nd Core I and some new technology.
The most high end chipset is Z77 instead of Z68.
Simultaneously, mid-end chipset is H77 to replace H67. Also B75 is for SMB. The price is higher than H61.

Z77 position is same as Z68. It integrates all new features.
It owns GPU output and CPU/GUP overclock options. It’s for high performance.
Z77 is also native support USB3.0 plus native SATA3 which is same as Z68.
Z77 complements the new generation I/O spec. However, it would be better to support more SATA3 Ports.

This guide is test with Z77 mid-end range product - GIGABYTE Z77X-UD3H WiFi.
GIGABYTE started this design from X79. White background looks better.

Accessories

The WiFi means this model bundles BT4.0 and WiFi PCI-E card.
Lower-Right is two different USB devices. WiFi make PC location be more flexible.
As more mobile devices be more popular, now your PC can link with smart phone or tablet through BT and WiFi.

GIGABYTE Z77X-UD3H position is replacing Z68X-UD3H.
Z77 UD3H plus WiFi is only 10USD more than Z68.
However, it bundles exclusive PCI-E BT4.0/WiFi card to have better C/P.

Main color is black and heat sink is blue. The harmonize colors are good.
Intel Smart Response and Lucid Virtu GPU are still key functions of Z77.

Lower-Left Corner
3 X PCI-E X16 support 2-Way AMD CrossFireX/nVIDIA SLI technology
When using Ivy Bridge CPU, the bandwidth is Gen3 X16 + X8 + X4
3 X PCI-E X1
1 X PCI
LAN chip is Atheros GbE LAN
Audio chip is VIA VT2021 supporting 7.1 channel and High Definition Audio technology
Design in Taipei

Lower-Right Corner
2 x White SATA, by Z77, support SATA3
4 x Black SATA, by Z77, support SATA2
It supports hybrid RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10. The max performance is decided by installed SATA devices.
2 x 64 Mbit flash, Dual BIOS double protection, Debug LED

Upper-Right Corner
4 x DIMM DDR3 support 1333/1600/1866/2133/2666(OC). The max DDR3 capacity is 32GB.
It supports Extreme Memory Profile. Next is 24-PIN power connector and front USB 3.0.
Red Power button, black Reset and blue Clear CMOS buttons.
The part below are 7 onboard voltage read points for accurate real-time voltage reading.
Cisco E2000 router

When I boot my machine, it picks up the connection right away, but every time it loses the connection after about 10-15 minutes....without fail. It doesn't matter what I'm doing. Browsing the net, playing a game, streaming video, sitting idle, it will all stop.

If I just click on the wireless connection icon in the system tray (where it shows me as disconnected), the available networks pop up, and my connection is restored. Usually it stays connected after this, every once in a while I'll get dropped again, but I just have to hit the icon again.

Is this weird? Not sure if its router, usb or the computer...

How much will you pay for a force feedback simulation chair?

I'm starting to brainstorm ideas for my senior project as an industrial design major. I'm thinking about building a force feedback simulation chair...

I'm starting to brainstorm ideas for my senior project as an industrial design major. I'm thinking about building a force feedback simulation chair for racing games, flight sims, and even mech sims. It will be probably be a cross-department collaboration with a mechanical and an electrical engineer, and it will mostly be an academic experiment. There is a campus competition called the Innovation Challenge, where students can submit engineering projects with attached business plans for the chance to win a 10,000$ prize that will serve as seed money. I would like to be able to design and build something that might qualify for that, so I'm thinking about designing a force feedback chair system DIY-Kit that will retail for significantly less than available chairs on the market, while providing mostly the same main functions. Something similar to this:

http://vrx.ca/products_viper.php

That chair retails for 3000$ I believe. But my goal is to have it compatible with joysticks as well as wheels, and possibly even be easily switched out for KB/M so you can do office work. It won't be as refined, but the goal is to provide good force feedback for at least the 3 main axis of rotations, as well as vibrational feedback:

It will mainly be a chair kit and the necessary components and/or software to connect to your PC and get going. It may have to be assembled, but the goal is to have it simple enough for someone to assemble within a day at most. You will need to provide your own LCDs, PC, and probably even speakers. But the goal is to have a kit for gaming enthusiasts to "add" on to their existing hardware, not outright replace it.

My question is: how much would you pay for such a thing? Lets say hypothetically that this was offered by a company that "promises" some kind of support, not a bunch of college students selling it on Etsy or ebay.

500$? 1000$?

My next question is: Would you ever buy a kit from a bunch of college students on Etsy or ebay? If so, how much would you be comfortable spending?

Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear some feedback.

I just built a new rig with the Intel 37770K, my old rig was an Intel Q6600 and an Nvidia 8800GTS, so it was a needed upgrade. But there's a hole where a graphics card should be. I'd intended that whole to be filled by the MSI's Frozr version of the GTX680, but it keeps fluctuating between existing and not on Newegg (not even in stock and not, but even being listed as being out-of-stock or simply not there).

It's becoming increasingly apparent that unless I manage, through some divine intervention, to actually get an order of the 680 when it is in stock it might be until the next semester starts before I can start gaming again. Not the situation I want to be in.

Magically, the 670s have managed to stay in stock through launch day.

So, the question is, do I buy a 670, or do I stick it out for a 680? Or, do I go all kinds of crazy and buy my first AMD/ATI card and get a 7970?
