well, I heard the Logitech 680s today
Hey All
As some of my other threads had said last week, I am looking to upgrade my *Logitech 560s* that I have been using for about a year, So I went to PC-Club to get some parts to build a system for a friend, so as I am walking around the parts area I see a set of the 680s over on the display table so me and the PC-Club dude walk on over there as we were talking about Raven Shield so we turn them on and we listened to some music and of course He had RS on the local computer. SO I messed around with the speakers for a good little while and I must say that I am not impressed at all. To my surprize   . The bass was frigg'n loud :shake: but the speakers were quite a dissipointment, and according to the PC-Club dude the speakers were just put there this week so its not like they had been there and everybody and their mothers uncle had screwed with them. So anyhoo, I am now thinking about some Creatives (5.1 500W) or Klipsch (5.1) Now having said this about the Logitech 680s the speakers were not setup to be used in the digital format so that very well might make a huge difference, although I don't know ??? its probably just the setup in the store... the satellites are pretty much identical to the Z-560. I've heard both and as far as i can tell, there really isn't much difference aside from the centre channel and extra connection options.
The Klipsch and Megaworks are very good speakers.. Can't go wrong with either of them... Cheers. PS: http://www.gamespy.com/hardware/febr...ut/index.shtml something that might interest U.. |
P.S. I forgot to mention the sound adjustment knob for the 680s is really weird, its kinda hard to understand if you have not seen these in action.
What you have is a little LCD screen with a small bargraph thats move a small tick as you move the adjustment knob. But as you move the knob the little tick seems to take a moment to move to your adjustment knob movement  This is all IMHO thought... BTW, lidistick thanks for the link great stuff!!! |
If you can get the Creative Megaworks 550 for cheaper than the Klipsch, then they are the better buy. The Cambridge-made Megaworks are more accurate than the Klipsch PM.

Thanks, for the input, I think I will get the 550s I was wanting to get the Klipsch' Ultras but I can't afford it YET   BTW, the above statements are just that " statements" made from myself so please don't get upset if you have the 680s as I am sure you are enjoying them the way they were designed too. btw the www.pagecomputers.com are selling the Creative labeled THX 5.1 550 for 194+shipping (I think fedex or UPS ground is only like $25).
http://www.pagecomputers.com/cgi-bin/page/B0849254.html I think I might order from them as that's the lowest price I've seen online. I think newegg sells it for 240 shipped. I've ordered printers and scanners from them and have had good experience with them. edit: actually pricegrabber pulled up compuplus.com selling the 550 for $182 before shipping, but I've never heard of them, they're in NY state, and looks like they've had some negative feedback on resellerratings.com lately. |
My 680's sound awsome. If must have been the set in the store. And i was a formet 560 owner too.

Thats great news :) btw, how do you have yours set up, digital or analog ? |
Analog, i with the epox would come with soundstorm.
But with my xbox its perfect and with music is sounds awsome. Almost anything. |
Epox does have SoundStorm, get the digital out adapter for like $10 and hook it up to your Z-680s digital in.
I am very skeptical about the MegaWorks being better than the Klipsch claim, I will have to hear that one for myself, the MegaWorks sets I have heard were not bad but not near Logitech or Klipsch by any means. |
Hey All
Anyone here actually have tried the analog and then the digital set-up on the higher grade speakers (Klipsch-Creative-Logi)? and if so is there really a differance ? Thanks...........TP |
Klipsch does not have digital. Analog inputs are great if you have a good soundcard, but on SoundStorm analog out, it doesnt sound good.
