A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
At last - ASUS have launched BIOS 1007 for the A7V600.
Changes are detailed on the ASUS site, but in summary seems to be: Upgrade SATA / RAID BIOS. Fix minor keyboard issues. Not the greatest leap forward then... My initial findings: Crashed trying to open Sandra on first attempt. After re-boot, opened OK. No improvement on memory bandwith. Vcore issue doesn't seem to be resolved (haven't tested this at length though). Computer seems to be running a bit slower  Note, I also installed DX9c (was using 9b) earlier this evening. Perhaps my findings are due to this. Hope not, as it's a damn sight easier to roll back BIOS than to roll back DX!!! Will post further findings as I come across them. However, other than 1 crash so far (might just have been bad luck), system seems stable... |

So it might not be worth applying?

Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
Further update:
Been running for a while now. No stability issues at all since that crash. De-fragged boot drive yesterday and it seems to have speeded thing up a bit. Don't know why but I often find if you have a hang that requries you to power down manually (flick the off switch), then boot up takes longer until you do a de-frag. Overall speed is back to normal I'd guess. Benchmarks I've checked thru Sandra are more or less the same. Overall then, no real difference from the 1006 BIOS for me. Please note however that I only use IDE drives (not SATA). The update to the SATA BIOS included in 1007 may indeed make it worthwhile for many users. Who knows, perhaps there are other improvements not posted by ASUS (possibly memory compatibility fixes)? |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
Just encountered another possible "improvement".
My 56k modem keeps losing the connection every 10 minutes or so, and yes I do have auto disconnect set to "never". I've reverted back to 1006 BIOS to understand if the problem is with the new BIOS or my ISP (normally pretty good). |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
OK - modem is still the same under 1006, so it's either my ISP or the modem is about to die.
Therefore, it ain't 1007. Reckon I'll re-flash to 1007 tomorrow. Should have mentioned in my original post that 1007 adds support for Sempron CPUs (should be on sale next week) |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
But after updated BIOS revision to "1007 final",
the vt8237 SATA BIOS revision still show v2.31 rather than v2.40 ,why?? |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
I have 3 machines which all have the A7V600 mb. I have now flashed the 1007 bios on all of them without problem. All three are solid and stable for the past 4 days or so running 24/7.
I have not got any of them OC or anything. I should say I was also happy with the 1006 bios which has served me for over 6 months now I think. It is a long way between releases. |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
I just looked at the Asus web site. I know a summary was posted in the first post but here are some more details on what is new in the 1007 bios.
1. Revise PS2 keyboard detection code to speed up post 2. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/cpusu...pusupport.aspx 3. Fix PS2 Keyboard sometimes cannot be detected when LEXTEK switch connected 4. Update Serial ATA ROM I took a look at the web site showing new cpu support and the 1007 is needed for the new Sempron Cpu's new to the market. These are small updates overall. I reckon this might be the last update for some time now. Sempron 2800+ ALL 1007 Sempron 2600+ ALL 1007 Sempron 2500+ ALL 1007 Sempron 2400+ ALL 1007 Sempron 2300+ ALL 1007 Sempron 2200+ ALL 1007 |

Pretty happy with 1.006. Any compelling reason to go to 1.007? Better performance or something?

The only thing I noticed was that it feels like it boots faster. I can only see the windows XP screen now, whereas before I saw the BIOS Channel assignments. (It takes a second or two for my monitor to auto-on.)

I guess there is no reason not to update to it. But will wait till the typhoon season here ends. With the hard rains we have had several short 3-5 minute brownouts as the turn of the power in flooded areas =(

Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
Was surprised to see this old thread I started popping up again.
Been running with it for quite a few weeks now, and have had no stability or performance issues. Can't say I've noticed the same improvement in boot up time as skyeandangus - mine was like that even with 1006, so to me both 1006 & 1007 are just the same in this repsect. Worth upgrading? - only if you are going to benefit from the SATA / keyboard / Sempron upgrades, otherwise I wouldn't knock myself out, although its always "nice" to have the latest BIOS. |
Re: A7V600 BIOS 1007 Released - First Thoughts
I just installed 1007 out of urgent need but it has not entirely solved my problem. I did not even know it was available until my A7V600 started spontaneously dumping its PS2 keyboard. After installing it everything else seems the same but the keyboard still stops functioning in the middle of typing this until I toggle a shortcut on the control panel to adjust the slider bars for repeat rate on the keyboard. I don't know why this works but the systems speaker (inside the case) beeps and then the keyboard will function again. My USB mouse works fine. Has anyone every seen this malfunction before? Does anyone know how to fix it? It started without warning (no new hardware or software installed) about a week ago and has gotten progressively worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have scanned for virii and malware using McAfee, SpyBotSD, and Adaware.
