How odd -- PCI-Express on 754? Wow. The motherboard maker may be earning good profits if this works out.

there's no reason why not; a lot of 754 owners want to upgrade.

as far as chipsets go, there is NO difference between 754 and 939; that is the beauty of HyperTransport. Also, most of the board design between 754 and 939 can be shared with good design; this makes it cheaper to do both sockets.

thats because some people dont have much funds so they buy s754, an x300 and a sempron, also it will be popular for OEMs selling semprons and low end pci-e cards

I only wonder how much it will cost. My wife is doing video encoding now and she needs an upgrade. If it's around $60, I may pick one of these up.

probably closer to $90.

nf4s can command mid-high prices for a while.

Nice thing about it, is that there are a LOT of PCI video cards that have some hefty specs for not a lot of money. BD51

Socket 754 is perfectly fine and faster than 939 for mid range CPU's because of it's higher mhz to make up for low ram bandwidth, mhz is generally more important than cache and bandwidth on the A64. Only reason I'd get a 939 board is if I wanted a 4000+ or FX chip.

for overclocking though, 939 is where it's at due to the winchester and soon venice and san diego. Stock, 754 performs a little better for the same money, though.

still no reason to go s754 even if you dont overclock as its a deadend and youd need to sell your mobo anyway if u wanna go s939, might as well go s939 now and save the trouble

Re: NF4 on socket 754. Looks like it's happening.

For the Nth time (N>1000): Socket 754 isn't a "dead end". There won't be any new additions from the current Athlon-64 series. So? What makes you so sure that future Semprons aren't going to be 64-bit someday?

Anyhow, buying "future proof" is never going to be useful, unless you're eyeing an upgrade less than a year from now. Next year, if you want the latest and greatest, you're GOING to buy a new board even if you're going 939 now. So why spend the premium for something you don't need now and won't help you later?

WRONG!! You're forgetting the ASROCK motherboards, with thier new K8Combo Z ,The K8U, that will upgrade to socket 939, for only $30 ,for the upgrade module.Besides it's almost a certainty that Semprons with be an A 64 line, before long. It's really a matter of ,weather you want to ride the head or the tail of the "beast" There will always be one Co. out there brave enough to buck the tide, as evidenced by the above post.BD51
