new ssd/OS drive does not read flash drive
Hi all. I just did a clean Win 7 Home 64-bit install on a Kingston HyperX ssd 120g, so far so good except for two things:
1. For some reason, the system will not read a 8g Patriot Flash drive I have that is ready by every other computer I own, my work computer, and so forth. Weird. I've had this drive for about a year with no problems.
2. I notice that when I have any Office 2007 files on the desktop and click on them, they open instantly, but if I have them in folders on the desktop, there is a several-second pause. They actually open slower than they did on my raptor. Again, weird. It makes no difference whether I have Indexing enabled or not.
After messing with the Patriot flash drive for a while, I got my only BSOD so far. BTW, this is installed on my Gigabyte i7 system in sig (I need to change the specs a bit to indicate the kingston ssd).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried booting up with the flash drive installed?
Re: new ssd/OS drive does not read flash drive
there are some issues with specific software drivers and flash drives. What else is installed? Do the same USB ports work OK otherwise?
I see the same thing with Office (Excel, Word) files here in Win-7 64 Pro. Post back if you find a fix. I actually have the files/folder on a different drive with shortcuts on the desktop and it does the same thing. If I place a shortcut to the specific file on the desktop, it then opens quickly. Not a hardware issue, this is Windoz weirdness.

Thanks rd. Yes, the USB ports otherwise work fine, both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (I use an external 3.0 drive on the latter). It was just with this one particular flash drive, the patriot. Oh well.
And thanks much for the info about the Office files. That's reassuring. It is just weird. I'm typing on my work computer now, which uses a 100g hdd with Windows XP, and the office files on this open faster than the ones on my new ssd. Weird. Otherwise, the SSD drive is pretty awesome. You click on a program and it opens instantly. Amazing. Reminds me of the first time I used a raptor back in 2004, how fast everything opened up.

No, I'll try that and see what happens when I get home tonight. Thanks. I'll be sure to scan my flash first.
