    Always been a fan of 'hwd -x'. Although I stopped running ATI cards due to their drivers. So now I just copy the same xorg.conf over to any new system.

    Try Arch Linux, it's a rolling release and for me is very stable if you stay out of the testing repos. No FW tools though, no tools of any sort that you dont install on your own.
