Re: What motherboard is the best (AMD)

The ASUS M4A89GTD PRO advertises itself as the "World’s 1st SATA-IO-certified SATA 6Gb/s-compliant" and the MSI 890GXM-G65 as "Military Class Components/OC Genie/CPU Core Unlock".

    These seem like...

    Quad-Core Propus: Unlock L3 cache?

    The 2.6GHz Quad-Core Propus hit Newegg! :)

I've been reading lots of articles and reviews and can't figure out conclusively what its relation to the Deneb is.

    Is it
A full Deneb with L3 cache...
  3. Re: Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

Wow! That looks excellent. I've been reading articles questioning whether they're Denebs with bad L3 cache, Denebs with good L3 cache just disabled to hit a lower price, or the L3 cache has...
  4. Re: Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

Haha. I meant their Linux graphics drivers and support are excellent. (The hardware... not so much. ;) )

Thanks a lot for the recommendations!

A couple questions: I've seen a couple of...

Re: 1.0V Ram - Possible to buy anywhere?

I'm going to guess it actually says something like "V1.0", i.e., version 1.0 and this was misinterpreted as 1.0 volts.
  6. Re: Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

    Thanks!

I'm probably going to use the case/PSU/video card/etc from my Sempron system. The power supply I've got is an ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT. My case is an Antec Lanboy. Video card is an...
  7. Re: Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

Thanks for the response, but the link doesn't work. Looks like it's a link to your shopping card.

GTwannabe: Thanks a ton for your response!
  8. Re: Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

It might be nice, but probably not. I certainly don't care about paying a mark up for this ability.

I kind of like the idea of taking a reasonable chance on unlocking a disabled CPU core though....
  9. Looking for new CPU/Motherboard/RAM suggestions

I killed my old Sempron 64 system. I guess it's about time to upgrade anyway.

I'm looking for insight into what's the best CPU/Motherboard/RAM combination I can get for, preferably less than,...
  10. Re: Formating 1TB in FAT 32 - looking for a utility

I think what you're overlooking is that using NTFS on Mac OS X isn't difficult.

AGP 1x was new in 1997.
  12. Looking for an inverted ATX case with PSU at bottom

    Hi,

I'm looking for an inverted ATX case with the power supply mounted at the bottom (preferably at the back) with the motherboard above. A top vent/fan would also be nice but not required.

  13. Re: Got a super rare motherboard, how best to protect it?

As discussed in this thread, the most powerful (and hungry) graphics card available is the Radeon 9800 Pro (maybe XT).

Depending on eBay conditions, I'll either go with it, or the much less power...
  14. Re: Got a super rare motherboard, how best to protect it?

Ahh! Good suggestion. I've noticed that current over the 5V line seems low on newer power supplies. This now makes sense.

The manual says the board needs around 15A on the 5V line. This seems...

Re: Newest Radeon supporting 3.3v AGP?

When I get the board set up, I'll run some tests.

    I'm getting a 9600XT (and maybe a 9800 Pro), and I've already got a PCI Radeon 9100 and a PCI Radeon X1550.

I'll try them all out and try to...

Re: Newest Radeon supporting 3.3v AGP?

I thought of this, but I think that a Radeon 9600XT on a AGP 4x bus would be faster than any newer PCI card since the AGP 4x bus has 8 times the bandwidth of a PCI.

For a Samsung UP1500 motherboard with a DEC Alpha processor.

People on the Linux on Alpha Processors mailing list tell me that although the board...
  18. Re: Got a super rare motherboard, how best to protect it?

    Yes, it's ATX form factor.

Let me reiterate: it's a DEC Alpha motherboard (not x86!)

Re: Newest Radeon supporting 3.3v AGP?

It doesn't look like any of those support 3.3v signalling (you can tell if they have a notch in the front of the connector). See the AGP compatibility section since it's kind of hard for me to...

    Newest Radeon supporting 3.3v AGP?

I'm looking for the newest Radeon supporting 3.3v AGP, that is, has a notch in the front.

According to Wikipedia, there's an X1300 Pro supporting AGP 4x, which is a good indicator of 3.3v AGP....

Weird link. Anyway, the first case on that page is what I was shooting for.

    AC cable inside case: Safe?

In some cases where the power supply is mounted in the front, such as this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042).

Is it safe to run that AC cable through the inside...
  23. Is 15A on the 5V line a lot just for the motherboard/CPU/RAM?

I've got a pretty esoteric DEC Alpha motherboard. The manual says it uses 15A on the 5V line. This seems like a lot to me compared to standard x86 boards.

Is this in fact a lot? What's median 5V...
  24. Re: Got a super rare motherboard, how best to protect it?

Interesting. Looks like it was the best AMD chipset in its day. :)
  25. Got a super rare motherboard, how best to protect it?

    Hi,

I recently (yesterday) bought a super rare DEC Alpha motherboard (Samsung UP1500) from Japan. It's costing an arm and a leg to get it and ship it. It's brand new, in the box, which is...
