Re: Lowed X99 Vs Highend Z97

Do you need a high end mobo? The 4790 has better single core performance, not so important for video and photo editing.

Personally I would go the z97 route. Keep the current ram and get a NVME PCI...
  5. Re: Keeping a moderately over-clocked workstation running 24/7, best practice or not?

Only if the cooling is inadequate, just make sure the CPU has decent cooling and you should be fine.

A little off topic but the new titan x has a much higher clock speed for the water cooled part...

Re: $500 GFX card GTX780 OC or 290 OC

G-Sync currently isn't that important because of the limited displays that support it. However when switching to 4K its going to be critical. Being able to tamp the frame rate up and down and have...

$500 GFX card GTX780 OC or 290 OC

So my budget is ~$500 for a GFX card. So the MSI N780 TF 3GD5/OC is currently at the top of my leader board. I could spend $70 more and get the MSI R9 290 Gaming OC 4GB. Performance would be similar,...

Re: How best to setup my living room

Most modern video cards will have at least 3 video outputs. Ideally get one with 2x DVI and a HDMI. Have the computer at your desk and run the HDMI to your TV.

  14. Re: Daughters 1st attempt building a low budget gaming PC..review & comment please

That ram is expensive for 2gb you can get 8gb (2x4gb) for cheaper Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600. 2gb of Ram on a modern system would be a major bottleneck especially...

    Re: GPU recommendation

I just noticed that the difference between a Galaxy GTX 670 GC 2 GB and a 770 GC is $30 more so I might be swayed towards the 770. I did notice that a 7970 ghz does perform really well against the...
