Re: Weekend Drunk Racing! You're Invited!

There needs to be another racing title sale! My budget got blown up this summer due to external circumstances. I wonder if you can still do DiRT 2 MP online? That at least was an extremely fun...

Re: Weekend Drunk Racing! You're Invited!

What other racing games would you be up for playing? I still need to try MP Project Cars, or GRID Autosport...

    Re: DiRT Rally PCPer League

I know, especially the Fanatec stuff. $1k for a basic setup with base, wheel, and pedals. No mention of shifters and other high end wheels.

    Re: DiRT Rally PCPer League

It would be nice to get a few more folks. Thanks for participating, Snooks! Congrats on the new wheel stand. I am seriously looking into getting a new wheel, as my current is more set up for...

    DiRT Rally PCPer League

If any of you are racers and have DiRT Rally, then join up the PCPer/JoshTekk league. I am working on keeping the week busy with races and events. You can sign up here, it is moderated:...
  8. Re: Saturday August 9 10:00 AM ET - Virtual LAN party #7

I'll probably drop in. Would love to play the new GRID Autosport. Too bad DiRT 2 still hasn't been imported to Steamworks...
  9. Re: what was You favorite old school AMD motherboard ?

The Asus K8V Deluxe was a really good mobo for the time. For such a new gen of chips, it was extremely solid.
  10. Re: Tim Sweeney/others question value of AMDs hUMA in APUs

Meh, vr-zone sorta sensationalized this one.

Tim's main beef (and it is a good one) is that hUMA is still non-trivial to implement in code. The issue is software support with coding tools. Using...
  11. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

Oh my gosh, all I see are walls of text. You guys are awful sensitive.

As for AMD optimizations in consoles... hard to say. They are Jaguar based cores and most of AMD's desktop and notebook...
  12. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

I wouldn't say developers are lazy... sure, they may not put in the work to make workloads more parallel... but we also must ask if it makes sense to make some of these workloads more parallel? Some...
  13. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

CPUs are about at the end of what they can do in terms of IPC and parallelism. Yes, they will keep increasing clockspeeds, but I think we are going to see a slowdown on increasing core counts. ...

Re: Tonight I hit 5 ghz and beyond....

The FX 8350 I just installed is just putting along at 4.3/4.5 Turbo without any voltage increases. Using that Antec Kuhler 620 and temps are reasonable... but I haven't really stressed it yet.
  15. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

AFAIK, Iris Pro has not made it to the desktop yet. I believe that it will show up first in Apple products? I could be wrong, have they already updated their range of products to reflect Iris Pro? ...

  17. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

If there was one really interesting thing about the Tom's Hardware article showing performance through from the Athlon II through the FX 6350, it was that AMD has been consistently improving upon...

    Re: New build, 3570 or 4570 i5?

Splurge for 1866 memory... can't remember offhand how fast the Intel memory controller goes. Could be wrong, but I know my test machine here does utilize 1866 speeds with the 3770K.

Definitely go for the updated mobo.
  20. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

Lol, in reply to a question many pages ago about what Z87 board I was interested in... I guess my quick (and nearly uninformed) answer would be the Asus Sabertooth Z87. I have used some of the other...

Wow, I don't look at the forums for one day...
  22. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

Eh, we are getting to the point where fast chips that handle many, many threads are becoming commodity items. I wouldn't call someone who bought a FX 8350 or 6350 for gaming is getting cheated out...

    Re: The challenge....

Just for clarification where I am coming from, my gaming machine is actually AMD based. It is a X6 1100T OCd to 3.8 GHz on all 6 cores. 2 x 4 GB DDR-1866 running at around 1650 or so. Have a GTX...
  24. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

The big push with Kaveri is the full HSA implementation. Current Trinity/Richland/Kabini do not feature the full HSA feature set. The biggest advance here is the shared memory space and addresses. ...
  25. Re: AMD gives up making "big" CPUs, 9590 their farewell to high end

I wouldn't say that we will be "stuck" with APUs. I actually like the idea of APUs and believe that heterogeneous computing has some real merits. So, let's say we have a 4 module 20 nm next gen...
