Re: Mom's computer got the Cidox.b rootkit ?

I always start with the drive connected to another machine irregardless of the version of Windows. Combofix uses a variety of different ways to detect AV software. Sometimes it misfires. I never...

    I would've done #13 first. :thumb:

Did I mention that I've made roughly half a million dollars (declared income) removing viruses?

Re: Mom's computer got the Cidox.b rootkit ?

I always start by connecting the target drive as a data drive to one of my machines to run a virus scan When I reconnect the drive to the original host, I start with a program called tfc.exe (a good...

I missed that. Run them in normal mode. Afterwards, try Safe Mode again. If you can get into it, run them again there.

Combofix and then Adwcleaner in Safe Mode.
  6. Re: Any info/ advice on the possibility of x86 Windows Server 2012?

No, you shouldn't need to re-install. Look for the option in the BIOS for memory remap or memory hole.
  7. Re: Any info/ advice on the possibility of x86 Windows Server 2012?

I don't know if 2008 r2 comes in a 32 bit version or not, but it's based on the same core as Win7.

    Re: Need lappy Tech advice

We'll see. Sometimes the screens for Asus are slightly different dimensions. It depends upon how it actually mounts whether it will work or not.

    Re: Need lappy Tech advice

Maybe. You should take the old screen off and get the make and model off the back. This will make it much easier to cross reference what will work. Also, take a picture of the back so we can make...

No, I was saying contact the seller of that screen to ask for the one you want. I think you may have trouble finding IPS, but these people will know.

    Re: Need lappy Tech advice

It's not hard. Pull the battery first. Remember that the connector is delicate, especially on an LED screen.

    Re: Need lappy Tech advice

It should work. At the very worst, you don't get an increase in resolution. But unless Dell hard coded something into the BIOS to limit the resolution (stranger things have happened!), you should...

    Re: DVD help

There's something with the disc if a PC won't boot from it. If the Windows 7 disc is a 64 bit disc, it won't run from the XP 32 bit desktop for obvious reasons.

Buying a real licensed copy is...

    Re: DVD help

Though I doubt the disc is the problem, it's an easy enough and inexpensive test. Have him burn you another disc, maybe using a different brand.

Re: Can sata cables go bad?

Yes, I have had a few (in customer's computers) go bad over the years. It is rare, but not unheard of. I've seen more cases of the flat SATA cable on MacBooks going bad than of standard PC SATA...

The optical drive in the machine in question has problems. However, licensed copies of MS software come with original discs (and a COA), not burnt copies. On the other hand, if you already had a...

Re: Where are all the old threads gone?

    Noorman,

If you go to the bottom of the page, under "Thread Display Options", click "show thread from..." and pick "beginning", it will show you threads all the way back to 2001.
  24. Re: Opinions on modem routers with Gigabit ethernet and 802.11n

I've had no issues to speak of with Netgear WNDR3700 routers.
  25. Re: Connection failed with 651 error.Windows 7

If the connection is via cable, it's almost certainly not PPPoE. You need a router connected to the modem. Preferably a wireless one.
