  1. Re: What to do...Have 1.3v Q6600 or upgrade to Q9400?

Swapped out everything except the board/CPU.

Got it to 3.1ghz which is plenty for me.

    I'll stick with the 6600.
  2. Re: What to do...Have 1.3v Q6600 or upgrade to Q9400?

The ram is the issue but since I'm swapping everything else out the question is will I get more out of a 9400 compared to my 6600.

Right now my 6600 is worth just a little less than the 9400 so...
  3. What to do...Have 1.3v Q6600 or upgrade to Q9400?

Its time to rebuild my desktop. Its a Q6600 that was running at 3.2ghz with no problems until about a month or so ago. I believe its the ram that is the issue.

I was looking into Q9400's as an...

Re: Duh moment...E7300 and 1066mhz ram

Thats what you get for trying to save a buck :)

I read there are several revisions of Bearlake and 2-3 of them max out at DDR2 800...I bought my wife's board simply because it supported DVI and...

    Duh moment...E7300 and 1066mhz ram

I built my wife a desktop based on a E7300 and a 2 gig stick of 1066mhz ram.

Biostar G31 chipset with 1066 support.

Boot it up, 2ghz processor and 800mhz ram. No option for 1066 in the BIOS,...

Re: Does heat sink paste fail?

I don't know how long ago it happened.

Thats one thing about the Gigabyte board, it resets itself to a safe speed and you never know it.

Day to day use its pretty hard to tell the diff between...

Re: Does heat sink paste fail?

Not much to do with the ram except replace it.

Its clean...I've been thinking of going water for a while. Putting the fan/rad down in the basement under the floor in my office so its totally...

Re: Does heat sink paste fail?

I cleaned it out, pretty dusty, especially the 8800GTS.

Dropped about 10C just from having a layer of dust on the outside of the Tuniq.

I also added a fan right behind it to pull more air...

    Does heat sink paste fail?

I had my Q6600 running at 3.24ghz no problem.

I noticed a while ago that one its slower than normal and two the fan is louder. Granted its summer and my office is a bit hotter but I saw the board...

    Re: Reasonable card for gaming?

Card looks good...$105 is not reasonable for my purpose.

    Around $30-$40.

    Reasonable card for gaming?

I've used on board sound for ages. For my simple Logitech 2.1 setup its been good enough.

I don't listen to music on my PC, MP3's or anything else for that matter.

    Since I've OC'd my Q6600 and...

    Strange anomolies when OC'ing?

My Q6600 has been running great now for over 96 hours straight. I've run it at 100 percent on all 4 cores doing video compression at 3.3ghz.

Runs like a top...except Norton. Norton works fine...
  13. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

    Ok I'm done :)

It ran good for a while at 3.42 but then encoder locked up again even after the voltage increase. I was going to bump the voltage again when I realized that I could turn off the...
  14. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

The case is a cheapo ARK, no additional fans at all, just the PS(Xclio 500) and the Tuniq.

Side of the case is not on.

Since I upped the voltage its gone through several cycles of converting...
  15. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

    Tried 3.42ghz at 380mhz.

Did OK for a while but when the CPU's pegged at 100 percent the machine crashed. This was at 1.3625 volts. I just upped it to 1.38 and waiting for it to hit its second...
  16. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

Ok found another application for doing 264 conversion and its the best one yet.

91 percent average cpu usage across all 4 cores. I hit 61c on 2 and 57c on two others.

    At this voltage what...
  17. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

Ok I found a program which stresses all 4 CPU's while doing encoding.

I'm topping out at 60c and 3.29ghz. Voltage is down to 1.36...think I have more headroom or is this a safe place to be?
  18. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

I found out I was way over voltage too.

I dropped back down to 1.36 from 1.42 and did not see a big temp drop.

I'm runnning Prime 95 on all 4 cores and I get solid 59's at 100 percent...
  19. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

Just played around with it a bit more.

I'm upto 3.3ghz now and still running a 42c on 2 core's and 38c on the other 2 near idle.

With Supreme Commander running full tilt with 8 players I ended...
  20. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

    Ok I finally got everything.

Tuniq Tower nice piece but bit of a pain to install...more so when you realize you did not plug in your 4 pin plug to the MB and it happens to under under the tower ...
  21. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

The Tuniq seems to be the winner. $49.00 and good reviews. Ordering tomorrow and we'll see by the weekend.
  22. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

    Whats a good cooler then?

I don't want to spend a ton and I'm looking for bang for the buck. I also don't care if it has an adjustable fan either. If there is something I can really crank up...
  23. Re: CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

Thanks. I'll be happy with 3.2.

Performance with PS3Video9 is pretty decent with my CD2 so if I can get the same clock speed and another halving of the processing time I'll be good.
  24. CD2 E4300 @ 3.2ghz - Same system what can I expect with Q6600?

I've been running a CD2 E4300 at 3.2ghz on air for the last 9 months or so. This is with a Gigabyte DS3 MB and Crucial DDR2 800 ram.

I have a buyer for my CPU so I'm going to move upto a Q6600.

Re: XP - Locks up in stages

Turned out to be a bad shell extension.

Not sure which one, I shut them all off except the MS ones, going to go back find which one it was.

    Thanks!
