Re: Laptop graphics card, how fast is it?

Thanks a lot. That list is very helpful. I've always found AMD products annoyingly non-transparent about how much memory they actually have (although that could just be that I'm out of the loop. I...

Laptop graphics card, how fast is it?

Obvious answer: not very. I'm looking for something a little more specific :D

So, I have an HP pavilion dv7 with an integrated ATI graphics card. The model identification on the control center is...

    Re: External Hard Drive Clicks?

Figured it was something like that. I just looked up "hard drive click" because I got curious one day and read all kinds of horror stories about drives that made strange noises then died.

    External Hard Drive Clicks?

    Hello,

I own a Free Agent 1.5 TB external hard drive, and have owned it for about 9 months now. I use it to store TV shows on so I can watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air (or whatever) on any computer. ...
  5. Re: "System recieved request from internet"?

Boy, I kind of forgot about this topic.

It's all good. I talked to the Information Technology help desk. The security on the campus network just pings the computers every once and a while to make...
  6. "System recieved request from internet"?

I just went to college and connected to their campus network. I'm using a wired Ethernet connection. I was just browsing when Commodo popped up an alert that said "system received a request from the...
  7. Re: Can you suggest some games for my system?

It was purchased at Costco of all places. I wondered why I never saw it advertised. At least it's an upgrade I suppose.
  8. Re: Can you suggest some games for my system?

Exact model: HP Pavilion dv7-6063cl. I read somewhere that it had a separate graphics card, but that might be a different model.

    Curious about my laptop's graphics

My parents just got me a HP Pavilion dv7 3063cl. Overall it's a good budget system and the specs are at least descent, except for the graphics card. It has a Mobility Radeon HD 2400. The computer box...
  10. Re: Can you suggest some games for my system?

I'd love to upgrade my GPU, unfortunately I own a laptop and I'm not entirely sure what cards are supported. It might even be integrated non upgradable graphics, which is the most pathetic invention...
  11. Re: Can you suggest some games for my system?

I think we're defining "struggle" differently. As long as the game can play in any quality at over 20fps then I'm happy :D .

Thanks for the recommendations. I really wanted a computer that could...

    Re: MW2 team play anyone?

Just like to mention that I still read "MW2" as "MechWarrior 2" not Modern Warfare. It's a reflex.
  13. Can you suggest some games for my system?

I just got a HP laptop and, while it's much better than my old setup, it's still a budget system. It's got a Radeon 2400 with 128mb of memory, a 2.3Ghz AMD Turon dual core processor, and 4GB of DDR2...

Re: Computer for College (and more)

That always confused me. Never knew if the speed listed was the maximum processor speed or the speed per core. It makes a lost more sense now.

So a 2.6 GHz 4 core processor would have a total...

Re: Computer for College (and more)

I was looking at AutoCAD 2010 specs. Are those really last year's? That's one heck of a performance jump.

link to where I found the specs (typed CAD system requirements into Google).

    Edit: XP...

Re: Computer for College (and more)

That budget computer looks pretty good. It would be wanting a little more RAM and I will have to up the processor to get it above 3.0ghz (CAD minimum requirements), but that's still a ton less...

Re: Computer for College (and more)

I do think I'll build my own computer. I've got a real itch to make one of these. It'll certainly get some weird looks from my roommate.

Re: Computer for College (and more)

If I was to use a desktop, how about if I ordered the parts off of Newegg and put it together myself? I've never done it before but it can't be that difficult (just connecting cables to the right...

Re: Computer for College (and more)

The requirement for AutoCAD is a 3ghz dual core processor. The processor on all those laptops is a 2.8ghz. I'm not sure about how laptops work, but that's within the realm of overclock-ability.

    Computer for College (and more)

It's getting time for me to go off to college and my parents wanted to send me out with a decent computer. I would prefer a desktop model for upgradability, but a laptop is most likely more useful in...

    Re: antennas

One person I know made his own antenna out of an external wireless card and a wok. He can get wireless from anywhere in our school (which is the mother of all dead zones).

    Not really useful, but...

    No ISP?

What I'm wondering is if it's possible to buy all your own tech (modem and cables) and connect to the internet without needing an ISP. I realize that, if it were possible, this would most likely cost...

    Re: Computer security jobs?

Thanks, all of you. I do indeed want to work in computer security (and besides, it's good to know abut these things in any case). I was just feeling a bit overwhelmed (and sleep-deprived) last night....

    Re: Computer security jobs?

Well now, thanks for the replies.

I wasn't expecting good news, and I wasn't disappointed. The most experience I've had with that kind of thing is poking around my network with a port scanner....
