Re: Challenge: i7 build under $1400??

Are you saying that without that tweak, that 4890 is not already faster then 4870? I read this whole page trying to figure out if that's what your saying, but cannot confirm that is your meaning. I...

Re: Managing A Quad Core Processer

Micromanagement is not necessary unless you have a specific application misbehaving itself. Set Affinity is one way of locking a specific executable to a specific core/thread. There are other third...

    Re: Overclocking Core i7 Thread

I hope I didn't come off as sarcastic as it looks on second read. It was meant to be funny, but rereading what I said just looks mean spirited and totally misses what I intended. I was being a little...

    Re: Overclocking Core i7 Thread

My time on the forum doesn't determine my knowledge of hardware. I've been working in the PC industry for over a decade and a half. That's longer then a month, in case that wasn't clear ;)

    Re: Overclocking Core i7 Thread

Ummm, it reads slowly AND inaccurately? Not a good enough explanation, at all.

Considering he clearly stated that the Asrock utility is reading 10C lower then CoreTemp, I'd say your the one behind...

    Re: AMD- no longer

Of course it doesn't. But drivers do, something you failed to take account for in your rush to declare an inferior CPU as superior for something it didn't really do on it's own. Learn to determine...

    Re: Overclocking Core i7 Thread

Generally, most mobo makers only monitor the socket temp, not the real core temps. So what your seeing most likely is the socket temp. That will always be lower them the real core temps. Real Temp is...

    Re: AMD- no longer

Can you say "driver issue back in JANUARY??"

Those tests were on EARLY i7 before drivers were optimized. It does nothing to point to those tests as proof of a CPU's superiority when it's plainly...

    Re: AMD- no longer

Um, I was going to agree with all the way to the end until you started making crap up at the end. The PII never beats the Core i7. Your comment was ridiculous. 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 (don't let...

Re: Make sure I am getting this right

You can put in the 4 sticks of 1066mhz, but they most likely won't run at 1066mhz. I'm not sure on that though.

    Re: Processor selection

As far as I understood, we were discussing air overclocks and what the OP will be able to accomplish. And Core 2 is easier to OC, don't overgeneralize so much. i7 is every bit as tricky as Phenom's...
  15. Re: Should I buy the hot, new quad core processor or stick with the duo processor?

But then your not building it yourself so it wouldn't matter. At that point you wouldn't need our help because it's a pre-built and those are pretty self contained.
  16. Re: Should I buy the hot, new quad core processor or stick with the duo processor?

Depends. For the most part, unless your doing massive multi-megapixel pics, then yeah, 8Gb is still a waste. If your batch processing bunches of the those multi-megapixel pics, then maybe you could...
  17. Re: Eureka - I found a cure!

Then why not just attach it there and leave it vertical? If that fixes it, why put it back where it doesn't work right.

That just reminds me of the guy who went into the doctor's office saying...
  18. Re: Should I buy the hot, new quad core processor or stick with the duo processor?

Do you have any apps that can even use up the 4Gb, or even get close to it? Keep in mind, SODIMM's are more expensive then desktop memory. Unless you have a burning need for 8Gb, then it's wasted....

    Re: wanting some advice

The difference in ram price is quite minimal now. DDR3 is dropping rapidly in price while DDR2 has long since bottomed out and will be headed back up soon in price.

Re: Win7 Beta and STEAM games...

Poci, do you even have a bloody clue what your talking about, or just spouting what you heard somewhere? Windows 7 and Vista both come with DEP on by default. And in the entire time I've used both...

    Re: Processor selection

Not bloody likely. I'd pick the Phenom II for the better clock for clock performance, not some wishful thinking that it will overclock as well as a known beast of a dual core overclocker. When people...

    Re: i7 New Build

Your okay then. I would consider 80-85C the line since 100C is the tjunction limit to throttle. I prefer leaving a 15-20 degree buffer, but there's no real, broadly accepted rule for when to play it...
