Re: NF7/S Rev2.0 : Where MantaRays Bios Species live!

Yes. Safe to try with 133fsb chips.
Pretty sure it has software L12 built into the bios, so it will use the 166/200fsb romsip settings for 133fsb CPU's anyway. Even without the software L12, it...

Re: NF7/S Rev2.0 : Where MantaRays Bios Species live!

I think you should try the d26 Mantaray XT CPC-on bios. CPC-off saps too much cpu performance IMO and your 2x256 ram should perform well with CPC-on (it's usually the 512Mb modules that have...

    Re: nForce2 & Idle Temps Tweak(s)

Bit '4' (of the 8-bit word in register 6F) is the disconnect bit.
Setting this to '1' enables the disconnect function, '0' disables.
So simply set 6F to h'0F for disable.

    Note: The Abit bios...

Re: Any problems w/ Abit's NB fan?

If you want to get increased cooling from the Zalman passive, you can park a fan over it using the Zalman arm bracket.

I've put this big 120mm fan on the Zalman bracket. It not only cools the NB...

Re: Bios is erasing settings in NF7-S v2

There seems to be a rash of posts similar to yours. Perhaps there is a dud batch of boards - when did you purchase yours?
What method are you using to flash the bios. I always use the DOS flash...

    Re: Upgrading help please

    Yeah, it'll probably do 200x10 @ ~1.5V (since it's rated @2Ghz/133fsb/1.45V).
It's almost certainly a better core than a 3200+, so starting at 200x11/1.65V would be no problem either.

    Re: nForce2 & Idle Temps Tweak(s)

    I don't use NGO's S2K Bus Disconnection Switcher program, just the C2NGO driver (cooling patch) - which doesn't allow on/off switching (set's reg 6F=h'1F).
But something else is going on with the...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

    Yes, those voltages are fine.
I was thinking there might be a problem right at startup - which you can't measure in realtime.
But since reseting the pc doesn't produce a correct boot (after which...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Yeah, sorry my mistake, for some reason I looked up the 2700+.........short memory retention.
Same applies, but really it shouldn't need it.

I'm thinking it may be PSU related, ie a...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Oh well, it was a bit of a long shot.
I doubt running your cpu at 200fsb has damaged it......it's still running fine in windows afterall.

Will it cold boot and hold setting when running with a...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Yes. Like I said, it shouldn't make any difference with a 166fsb cpu (it's grounded on the chip via a resistor, according to AMD)......but it won't cost anything to try.

    Only the AH30-AH32 should...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Hmmm, so bios is retaining the settings but not applying them at startup.
Even if your chip was detected incorrectly this should not matter. For instance, a mobile is detected as 'unknown CPU type',...

firthy, glad you sorted your problem. :thumb:

The NF7-S rev2 has been around for a long time - very long, given the butterfly nature of MB's in general - it remains among the best 2 or 3 socket A...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Oh....somehow I thought you were using a mobile.
Forget about all that L12 stuff - it doesn't apply to 333fsb chips.

The NF7 cannot change multipliers on locked chips. If your 2600+...

    Re: NF7-S rev2 CPU recognition problem ?

Not sure what you are asking here.
There is only one setting for system clock. If 100Mhz is selected, then CPU speed is derived by the product of the clock speed and multiplier. Memory...

    Re: Upgrading help please

Not strictly guarranteed, but the IQYHA steppings will (typically) do this easily with ~1.7V. I see that Excaliberpc is now asking $110 for a guaranteed IQYHA:0429 stepping. A bit more than I...

    Re: Upgrading help please

bigheadache is right, there is no reason to buy the 3200+.

Personally, I'd get a 2600+ mobile (~$100).....cheaper, and more potential than the 3200+.
If you don't want to exploit it's greater...

Re: newbie: How to change mem ration on NF7-S2?

Corsair don't appear to publish timings for their value ram.
However, some people have been able to run pretty good timings with that stuff, you'll have to experiment.
    Start with something like...

Re: First time overclocking K7N2 Delta2-LSR

Those temps still look suspicious - but you're right, there won't be much discernable difference between those two settings. You wan't to boost your fsb by ~30mhz and your cpu speed by a ~3-400mhz to...

Re: First time overclocking K7N2 Delta2-LSR

It's highly unlikely that your CPU temp is going to be the same as your system temp after gaming for a few hours. Looks like both are reading the same sensor or something else is not right.

If you're talking about WPCRedit/WPCRset you can download them here.

However, I strongly recommend you try the NGO cooling patch - it provided dramatically better results for me.
  22. Re: WTHeck? Cas 2.5 fails miserably in Memtest, but works great in XP

    That's a curious one.
Something I've noticed on my other machine is that ram that fails Memtest#5 can be more susceptible to crashing/BSODs during games. This is anecdotal - no controlled...

Re: CPC Off bios worth it to gain 15Mhz FSB ?

    225 with CPC-on is a good result......I wish I could run CPC-on @225, but my chipset just won't do that. :(

Just a little footnote to those tests I ran above.
    I tried 12x217.7(2612Mhz) CPC-on -...

    Re: ABIT NF7-S questions.

What timings is your ram rated at?
Unless the ram and board are exceptional, you may find that you can't push the fsb beyond 220 with a 2x512 configuration.
I'd start with a cpc-on bios, drop the...

No they'll work with all cpu's.

As a rule of thumb - stay away from the D10 bioses. Stick with the later (D23 on) and you should have no problem
