  1. Re: Gone a long time, thinking about HDD upgrade

Yea, I'm leaning toward the 300GB Raptor now. The egg's got it for $200, so pretty good deal...and I think there's a promo code for $10 too. I don't see why anyone would pick the 150GB model as it...

Re: Were to get a 7pin S-Video adapter?

does the laptop have an Nvidia GPU?

The desktop cards have the same port, and it can do composite, component, or S-video with a dongle. These dongles will be all over ebay.

    The S-video ports...
  3. Re: Need assistance selecting external hard drive.

I'd go the passport route myself.

As for the power, it'll work with most any laptop made relatively recently. If it doesn't, a USB Y-cable is super easy to make.
  4. Re: Formating 1TB in FAT 32 - looking for a utility

    you have Vista?

Vista will format FAT32 natively from a DOS prompt.

make a shortcut to "cmd". right click shortcut and say "Run as Administrator" (yes, even if your user has Admin!)

    Format...
  5. Re: OCZ Vertex SSD. Should I buy the 30Gb for the ASUS 1000H?

Well, the drive performance will depend somewhat on the CPU, but the important part is the drive controller on the southbridge.

I know most Atoms use the old 945 chipset...not sure on the...
  6. Gone a long time, thinking about HDD upgrade

    Hello,
I was a frequent poster a while back, but now I'm back.

Anyway, my current HDD configuration is as follows:
150GB WD Raptor ADHD: Vista x64 and Office
    500GB: Apps, archive TV
    500GB: TV,...

    Re: Nvidia tesla

it IS an 8800 core actually. It's basically a box with multiple 8800 boards with 1.35GB RAM each.

It has no video connectors as the GPUs are meant for more general purposes, aka GPGPU. ...

    Re: Clone Hard Drive Software?

maybe you need to do a "drive to drive" copy instead of a "partition to partition copy"? I know sometimes my Ghost copies don't boot unless I do a drive copy.

    Re: esata equals sata?

eSATA enclosures will use eSATA cables. If it uses a SATA cable it is not eSATA, but external SATA (kind of a big difference).

the signal is the same whether it be eSATA or SATA (4 signal pins,...

    Re: 74GB Raptor - A little disappointed...

it probably won't...on a new install with nothing on it. On an empty drive, access time doesn't matter as much as the heads don't have to move much.

Load up the drive and/or fragment it, and the...

    Re: 74GB Raptor - A little disappointed...

i believe that IDE CAN support tagged command queueing, but none do.

Well, unless you count the GD raptors. Those were technically IDE drives, they just had a bridge that made them SATA.

    Re: 74GB Raptor - A little disappointed...

um, why are you placing such high importance on sustained transfer?

It is probably one of the most UNimportant things on a boot/OS drive. For a drive of this use, access time rules; it is the...

Re: Installing Win XP Pro 64 on a SATA drive?

yea, while it has SATA, it is based on a third party chipset, the silicon image 3112.

Re: Old Pentium 933 to 1 ghz.

could be the PSU can't hande the increased demand (the 1Ghz .18 P3s use substantially more power).

While the PC would actually work, memory and cache errors will cause problems. Also, the die...

if the 1Ghz part is a Tualatin core (.13 micron process) that would explain it.

  24. Re: SB Audigy and generic front panel audio connectors

I don't think the audigy has that J1 connector.

My Xfi has it, as does my A2 ZS. I don't think my A2 did, though.
