    Re: Phenom II vs. Sandybridge?

Well there are alternatives that can't be overclocked but are cheaper:

    i5 2500 (non-k)
    i5 2400
    i5 2300

I looked at the anandtech benchmarks and the 6 core amd chip performed surprisingly...

    Re: import pc and parts

There a bunch of mail forwarding companies that do just this. You should try them:

    viaddress.com
    bongous.com

Search for more and you are sure to find them. Overall thought its better to buy...

    Re: Router/Internet Connection Problem

    First ignore your friends.

Second the 1inch square box is NOT the modem :p . A modem is larger. About the size of your open hand. And its got blinking lights on the front. See this picture for...

    Re: Router/Internet Connection Problem

The modem is the device your Internet Service Provider (ISP) gave you. Its connected to the back of the router via a cable.

Wow a 16x cd burner! And win2k! Now win2k was truly a great OS. XP without the bloat!
  8. Re: First Hitachi goes, now Samsung is throwing in the towel?

The same average consumer has no idea what an SSD is. You think manufacturers are going to spend money trying to explain to him why a 60GB SSD is better than the 2000GB HDD offered by the...
  9. Re: First Hitachi goes, now Samsung is throwing in the towel?

What this argument again? People have been making this sort of argument for decades now. Its been proved wrong over and over and over and over... Ok read up about this:

    Bill Gates (not exactly a...
  10. Re: First Hitachi goes, now Samsung is throwing in the towel?

First of all its an HDD as in Hard Disk Drive not an HHD.

Only the bit players are exiting the market. The two largest companies Seagate and Western Digital are not going anywhere. There is a lot...

I looked. Honestly. But I can't find a mention of a budget anywhere in your post.

    Re: Quick AMD Advice

I use openSUSE Linux and the KDE system monitor agrees with the numbers reported by Firefox.

You should try opening about 60 different web pages in various tab groups and then look at the memory...

    Re: RAM FSB Question

I doubt the board is at fault. You don't seem to have a handle on the basics.

    Let me explain:

True System bus speed= CPU FSB /4
    i.e. 1333/4=333MHz

    True RAM speed= RAM MHz/2
    i.e....
  16. Re: First Hitachi goes, now Samsung is throwing in the towel?

It sounds better to blame the ipad rather than SSDs in general. Everyone is leaving the HDD business because they see SSDs as the future. I for one have to wonder about this. HDDs will always provide...

    Re: Help with mem upgrade

You don't need to upgrade memory at this point in time. It will make no difference to your system's performance.
  18. Re: Anyone try 12GB on core i7 (3 x 4GB)?....and media encoder upgrade suggestions

I think you need to look closely at what part is the bottleneck before you start upgrading. If the CPU is the bottleneck adding more RAM will not help. If that turns out to be the case you may want...

    Re: Hardware advice...true or bogus?

Sorry for the late reply. Actually virtualization is a lot easier and safer than multiple booting. I strongly suggest that you download virtual box that I linked to above and try it out. Its all...
  20. Re: Help with Mystery: Gigabyte X38 motherboard suddenly losing USB power?

Ok what you should do is disable any screen saver/screen power saving settings. This way you always have an active display. If your computer appears to have locked up again you can at least see what...

    Re: Firefox 4

I've found its more responsive. FF 3 had this tendency to freeze for 5 seconds or so every now and then. I don't see any of that in FF 4. Tabs open and close faster and its bit more stable as well.

Re: NO BLOOD FOR OIL! Barack Obama bombs Libya

    Re: Hardware advice...true or bogus?

    You don't :

    - Need 3 hard drives

    - Need native support for the hardware from all 3 OS

    Let me explain:

    - You can install one OS ( I suggest XP) and use the free virtualization app called...
