Something is wrong with your drive setup. Are you sure you are using the proper cables etc?

Here are my scores with 1 IBM 120gxp 80gb.

    OC'ing may REDUCE HDD Scores

    Stang, et. al.

With my Gigabyte GA-7DX rig, I got two sets of results and tried both several times with consistent results:

    Stock 133 FSB XP2000+ (1.667GHz)
    ------------------------------
    CPU - 4809
    Mem - 3105
    HDD - 938

    OC 140 FSB XP2000+ (1.750GHz)
    ---------------------------
    CPU - 5052
    Mem - 3253
    HDD - 677

    Several comments:

    1. I don't think the Via 686B Southbridge and its IDE interfaces in my AMD761/Via 686B combo likes being run out of PCI spec much. If the HDD's are still transfering at ATA-100 speeds but the IDE interface (or PCI) is running faster, one could get write overruns (or waits) or read underruns.

    2. I will also try this later using a spare Promise Ultra ATA-100 (non Raid) controller to isolate the IDE interface from the PCI/686B bridge.

    3. The difference on HDD tests was noticeable in how fast the progress bar went across the window. I could tell my HDD perf. was lower when OC'ing.

Final note: HDD tests are always notoriously unreliable when running through the file system (like PCMark2002) vs. running against bare hardware (like HDTach 2.61 does). To get reproduceable (and incidentally near optimal) results, one MUST:

    a. Run MSCONFIG and turn off all STARTUP proggies to get a clean boot.
    b. Reboot system after EACH run of the benchmark.
    c. Clean TEMP directories of files created by PCMark2002.
    c. Defrag C: drive
    d. Immediately run benchmark.
    e. Go back to step "b" for each run of the benchmark.

Sorry - but I have been doing HDD types of benchies at hardware, File System, and even complex data base level on everything from Mainframe IBM machines to DEC minicomputers, to PC's for nearly 30 years. Getting reproduceble Disk IO results is not easy.
