Nice! We just got ours back up here at the shop. If We can keep the uninitiated hands off, perhaps it will be working next time I need it!!!!

Re: The B@llsy Killer Barbaric Pirate Frog Bar!!!

We've got 4 here. Well, custom fabrication is our main buisness. Anyways, the one I was working on is a robotic TIG. It can do pipes, fittings, and shafts. You know, only round welds as it rotates the part. But in the mean time, I'm getting pretty good at tacking everything together. Sorta fell into this job as I normally don't do this sorta stuff. The guy who normally runs that robotic TIG is on sick leave hence I had to pick it up.

This all takes be back to when I used to work for my dad. Those were fun days.

Man, that would be fun to watch. Many years ago we had a huge (18 million USG) tank built and the horizontal welds were all robotic. Not quite the same, but it sure elimated a lot of monotonous welding. Steel was 1.25" thick at bottom.

WOW! That tank must have been HUGE!

This machine here basically has a TIG torch mounted on two servos. One for Automatic Voltage Control (up/down), and another for a weave (side-to-side) action. Then of course, the part is mounted in a servo powered chuck (hence the rotation).

Actually, I found a picture of it on our website:

You can see the powersupply in the back (yellow box), on top of it is the teach pendent. Kinda hard to see it behind the unit.

It's too bad we haven't marketed this machine properly. It's been sitting idle for a couple of years now.

This is our first job for it in quite some time. I'd just like to see it running more often. Hopefully this job will continue. You never know how long someone wants parts. Right now we are only talking about a few hundred pieces. But I'm hoping that continues each month.
