Should I use 1 or two harddrives?

Hi, I just got a new Maxtor ATA/133 40GB hard drive to use on my KX7-333 motherboard. Before that I have a Maxtor ATA/100 30gb hard drive. I have a few questions. Should I use the new Maxtor only on ATA/133 or should I use BOTH harddrives and if I do will having two slow anything down? Thanks!

The drives have independent timings so one won't slow down for the other. However, master to slave transfers (and vice versa) on the same IDE channel will be slower due to both drives accessing the cable at the same time (one must stop to let the other start).
