x display manager

Is there some other display manager for X like xdm, kdm or gdm?

windowmaker

my personal favourite, though no one else seems to use it. It's very not-windows.

if you change your .xinitrc file to;

#!/bin/sh
exec wmaker

that should start windowmaker when you run startx.
