    g4 ti4200 2d quality?

alright, i can find tons of reviews on ti4200 cards RE: their 3d performance, but i also care quite a bit about the clarity in 2d as well. those of you running any form of the geforce4 ti4200, which brand do you have and how is the picture quality in plain old windows?

    go for it

I have Asus 8240 tb (ti4200)flavor, and I say it's as good as anything I've seen so far. Monitor is could be the only limitation for these cards.

Try checking out some manufacturers site and check out their RAMDAC specs, this will give you an indication of the quality.

Depends on the manufacturer. A cheap no name might have bad quality but quality stuff like Leadtek, Gainward, Asus, and *sighs* MSI, might have better quality.

ATI has historically been superior to all NVIDIA card makers in 2D however.

If you want to be sure of 2d quality, shell out about $350 on the Parhelia.

Nothing, just that I usually give the MSI fanatics here who refuse to check out other better brands like Leadtek or Gainward, a hard time, and they know it... I'm just mostly joking around...

MSI makes good cards but not the best by any measure, IMO.

The 2D and 3D clarity on my GF4 is crystal clear. Are you in graphics design?

    well...

Yes, I'm into graphics design, and I also love to game it up! But I believe I have made my choice, the Hercules 3D Prophet 8500 128M. It seems like a powerful card, both in 2D, with the legendary ATI reputation, and 3D, with the strong Radeon platform. And the 128M of DDR should hold me over for a little while. I just couldn't settle on one particular 4200, since everybody has different opinions about their clarity, and I have yet to see anyone say ATI has sub-par 2D clarity. Plus I didn't want to drop $170+ on a card I might end up being disapointed with. The 3D Prophet was $129 on sale at NewEgg and free shipping, damn good deal.

I went with the Hercules over the genuine ATI because the cards are identical except for their overclocking abilities, where the Hercules pulls ahead. Does anyone know if I need to use Hercules drivers for this, or can I use drivers from ATI as well? I'm new to the Radeon world...

I think there is a way to use the Radeon drivers.

Hercules is a good brand, and Radeons are awesome. Enjoy!
