The R9700 pro is here!! URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!

    See this thread, please!

    See this:

Anyway, removing the same motherboard again in a different Antec 1040b case. Same clunk noise so I yanked the board. Now I don't know how to get the screws off the standoffs so I can put board in another rig. I've tried hodling the standoff with pliers and using an electric screwdriver on the screw but it just doesn't come out!!

ALSO, how do I remove a northbridge heatsink (using two white plastic pushpin thingies on an Iwill xp333-r)? I tried removing the mobo but it just won't come off. I tried pliers on the bottom to squeeze the pushpin but no luck. I tried pliers just pulling hard on the sink. No luck. PLEASE help!!! I think I broke the motherboard by now unfortunately .

    Please post suggestions as well!

    Wink

Dude your funny,, all that money in a system and your getting hung up on screws,, man I would buy a new case if I had too.

Anyways,, I see the guys on the other forums gave you plenty of good suggestions, another thing you might want to try in the future is locktite your screws when you first install your board,, I mean the FEMALE screws that go into the case.

Also on your XP333-R cooler,, the reason its not just POPPING off is because the two clip retainers are not the only thing holding it on. Make sure you do this when the board is good and warm,,and use a credit card on the board for protection,,and GENTLY pry off the old Cooler with a flat tip screwdriver and lay it flat on the board and give it a gentle and slow twist. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

    Good Luck!

Well, I got one of them partially loose. There's not any epoxy on it since the sink lifts up and down a little (not much because the two things keep holding it in).

None of the suggestions on the other threads have worked . I really want to get this working by tomorrow morning so I can enjoy it for the weekend... anything I try though just hasn't been working !

    what rad said^^

and umm... from now on, i think your best bet is a removable motherboard tray....

what about dremeling around the holes... you ruin your case though...

your standoffs/screws are stripped... all i gotta say...

if you're desperate you can drill the screws...yes, drill...then replace with another set of screw and standoff...but you got to have steady hands to not drill through your mobo

After all I've read, all I can say is:
DONT GET A FRIGIN DRILL ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR MOTHERBOARD
While others might be skilled enough to do something like this...I don't think its an option for you at the moment.

    Just my $0.02.

if you can get something under the head of the screw, and apply a steady upwards pressure as you turn it out with your scrrewdriver it may come out

he has an antec case (no motherboard tray), and his screws wont' come outta the standoffs, thus equalling, his motherboard is stuck..

drill the screws out, you need a damn steady hand though... with a removable motherboard tray, i don't think this would happen...

Indeed, I'm not . I got the motherboard out by yanking it after the clunk noise instantly, but the standoffs came out as well and are still attatched to the screws. One screw is diagonally into the standoff. One is just on 'normally' but won't come out.

Still no luck on the screws or the northbridge... I appreciate your suggestions, but I don't have a drill, nor do I have the skill to do it without meta filings going into my motherboard (nor steady enough hands to stop the drill from going into the motherboard!!).

That sounds like something to try, but how do I hold the motherboard while doing this?

    Talking stuck screw

Use a Dremal cut off wheel tape off the places around the stand off and go real slow heat can build up fast take your time. For the heat sink, remove the pins the same way. After the pin are out heat up the sink with a hair dryer then use heay dental floss sarting at each corner slowly working across reheat with dryer as needed. good luck and go slow:

    Won't tape static-fry the board?

Also, wouldn't plastic fly everywhere from the dremel cutting through the pins?

Finally, same thing with metal, wouldn't sparks fly everywhere and small metal filings??

When I wanted to remove the heatsinks from the ram on my Gladiac Ultra and then fan and heatsink from the gpu, I used a hobby knife. There are flat hobby knifes that can be handy for those type of things. I slid the hobby knife between the space available, cut a little bit, and then the heatsinks came right off, same for the fan. Be careful and cut at an angle that if your hand slips, you won't cut yourself and you won't damage anything. It's a bit more risky with the motherboard because it's hard to get a good angle. I been wanting to remove the fan from my XP333 r myself, but I'd rather just leave it as it is or rma it when really needed or something.
