Yes It works fine. It is compatible w/66 & 33 drives. Mine has been working fine since this system was built one month ago.
Good luck
Also, when I ran an Ultra66 drive on the Promise controller in Win98SE, it gave me a nice hop in transfer rate. I gained about 50% speed increase which always rocks
Just use a simple program that measures transfer times on random files. There's plenty of them out there. I normally just use WinMag's Wintune 1.0.43 @ http://wintune.winmag.com/wintune_43.exe

time to look dumb again.
am trying to sort out why i'm getting poor rw hd benches and this post appears.
i thought the a7v had 2 primary hd slots.
one for ata66 and one for ata100,either of which being controlled through a chip programmed by "promise technologies".
unless a person installs a resistor and triggers the installation of raid controller instructions.
after reading this post and going back to asus driver download page i see where i got confused.
the promise ultra66 ide controller driver is for a pci ata-66 card with promise ide chip.(laptop thing?).
so now that im half straight on the promise controller thing and am having hd performance woes im gonna have to try using the ata100 slot for my ultra66 drive.
in device manager i show scsi controllers and theres 2 entries.
the first is "hp epst parallel scsi adapter"(scanner)
the 2nd is the win95-98 promise ultra100 ide controller (pd20265)-driver is ver 1.60,build 25
in bios i have the ata100 detection disabled.
so could i just plug the hd into the promise ata/100 primary and enable detection in bios?
