    Swap File inactive

I've noticed that my swap file is NEVER used. 512MB Ram, more details in sig. Memory likes to get totally full, then it seems it will just dump stuff. Seems to me I set 1GB of swap, and I would like it to be used

    Right now:

    430MB Mem used
    No Swap used.

Loading XMMS seems to take a bit of memory, if just xmms runs I see the used memory just rise and rise...

    maybe it's just me

Your unused RAM is filled with cache, so why do you worry ?
I have a dual with 512M running 100% with 2 instances of Seti, and in 4 months, I happened only once to have 20M used in the swap while burning a CD and listening radio through xmms.

Same here, 2 SETIs running Dual 1900 512MB.

as long as it's not something weird, I am fine with it. 100% CPU Util and the machine doesnt seem any slower--and I am cruncing Genomes, could I be happier?
