    Lets wait for more reviews of the Plus 9 to come out. Especially Storage Review's, which is pending.

    With the exception of access time, the HDTach run of a Plus 9 already posted here is virtually identical to the WD800JB drives I have.

    Amd=cool,
    the Maxtor looks quite capable- excellent transfer speed. What are those 'low spikes'? I installed an 8-meg cache Maxtor 120 yesterday and I will say it is a VERY quiet drive as well. In 'real world' there would appear to be no noticeable difference between the two-

    The new maxtors are on par with the WD. Neither will really blow the other away in one catagory. I have 2 Maxtor 60GBs in a Raid 0 and in HD Tach I get about 85000 Average, and in ATTO I"m peaking at over 98,000 for the read and writes. Wish I could post pics, but I don't have a website that supports direct linkage. Too cheap.

    They are probably at about the same speed level. Further showing that ATA133 is not all its cracked up to be. I am going to stick with my WD as I had two D740X's die in about a month in two seperate systems.

    I have used Maxtor's for about 7 years and never had trouble until these new ones. I have also had WD's for about the same length of time and not had any problems. Reliability is usually not a problem with either brand but when two die on you in a month it makes you jump ship

    IBMs have died much faster than any other drives on the market. I still have 2 GB drives from Maxtor in my servers and no problems with them. I'm using 2 Maxtors in my RAID, and I Have 3 others as well. No problems with any of them. Had a Deskstar drive, and it went in 3 days.

    After installing my maxtor (plus 9) drive the the other day i started to notice that the hard drive accesses by doing nothing to it. Even when browsing web pages it aceccesses and the mouse either slows down or jumps.

    Any one have a Probable solution

    I went and bought a WD 80 Special Ed to compare so here is its tach results..very similar to my maxtor 80gb.

    Somehow i like the WD better it is a lot more quite and has a more smooth feel to it.
