    also, what would be a better overclocker ? 2400 or 2600 ? The 2600 (266fsb) is almost 30 dollar more than the 2400..worth getting a 2600 over the 2400 ?

HyperYagami - Are you sure you are using bios 2BA1 not 2BA7?
Even later bios version 2BA2 only has support for a 2100+ chip. Does your post screen display the correct "XP2400" message?

I took a look at the board and the area's where I did the soldering. There is no excess solder anywhere and all the electrical traces are clean. From what I can see is the whole MOD is very clean, I used a magnifying glass just to be sure. Also, it turns out that the RAM turned out to be fine and had no issues in my friends computer.

I'll try the old CPU and see if I can update the bios, the TBred we are talking about is a 2200 that I had. Hopefully, I can get it up and running with the old CPU.

2BA1. It does not recognize my 2400+, and it sees it as a "2000mhz cpu" but everything runs fine there. To me the only benefit of updating the BIOS is to get the CPU recognized but in terms of fuctionality they're all the same and to me the newer ones are actually worse.

wanted to thank acajka for all the info !!! Great, great..

My parts all on the way for the mod...now i just need a ncie deal on a 2600 or 2400

I have one question, tho regarding the bios 2ba9:

You say that we need 2ba9. Until now i refrained from flashing to 2ba9 (running 2ba8) because the soyousa site and other websites claim that the 2ba9 "...supports ONLY Duron's AppleBread CPU" <- which of course doesnt make any sense.
I assume this is a mistake on Soyo's side...should of course mean:
"Now ALSO supports Duron's AppleBread CPU"

Just to doublecheck before i flash tomorrow.

Also...while i was examining the bios i found CPU entries up to 3200+ (i just looked at it quick in an editor)....so...this means that AMD CPUs up to 3200+ SHOULD be supported ! The question is only which ones..

Anyway....cant wait to do the mod

    thanks

flexy - some of the early bios versions would run the Tbred chips, but the post ID screen would not display the correct cpu model numbers. Soyo kept adding support for faster cpus in later bios releases. You can run a Barton 3000+ at 3200 speeds in a D+ but even with bios 2BA9, it will only display as a 2600+ on the post screen. They may have added the cpu ID to the bios table, but it doesn't work correctly. In fact, many bios versions recently released by Soyo have problems. This applies to other board models, not just the K7V D+. I don't know whats going on, but its obvious they are having problems in their bios area.
EDIT : I just checked my notes, and if you don't want to flash to 2BA9, your present version 2BA8 will work with either the 2400 or 2600 without a problem.

Although I was supposed to be in Washington DC by now. I'll be in Dallas for about another month, then be in DC for 3 months. So actually I only have a 1 month window - not much, but will have plenty later. I would imagine the older D+ would have been burried and gone but there seems to be plenty out there that still have it. In large part thanks to you.
