Form what I undertsand, we're limited to the tbred cores with the 266 fsb. So that would make the 2600+ the fastest chip we can use this board and those are getting harder to come by.

Well Captain_Stormy I am now very confused!!! If we can
change multipliers in the BIOS...Why then can't.....say....we use
a XP2800 that has a 333fsb at 266fsb speed?
I am now running a D+ with a XP2100 Tbred 266fsb cpu,
with 3 sticks of 256mb each all with No problems, thanks
to All of you with, and the info here.
But I want more Speed......Thanks.....Jo43Jo

you cant use somthing with a fsb of 333 because the motherboard cant support it. the kt266a chipset has no 1/5th pci divisor, so you cant run the fsb past 150 without going out of spec for the pci bus. if your pci bus is out of spec you can be your going to have a ton of problems both hardware and software.

Well Captain_Stormy, I guess it a MP 2800 I'll be a needing.
Now thats gotta work, it has a 266fsb, and cost....well.......
Jo43Jo
well, an athlon MP will only work if it is used in a dual cpu board. and just because it is a 266fsb dosnt mean it has to work. the fast chip i know that any has in this board is a 2400+.

jo43jo - The MP2800+ has a different cpuid string than the older MP processors and the D+ bios will probably not be able to recognize the chip if installed. Thats because the MP2800+ is based on the new Barton core while the MP2600 and lower chips are based on the Tbred B chips. Both chips run at the same speed, 2133, the 2800 is rated higher because of the extra cache on the die. I would stick to the MP2600 if you plan on a future purchase. I have an XP 2600/266 chip in one of my D+ boards and it runs fine. I purchased it last December, but now they are very hard to find. The MP chips command about a $60 premium over the XP chips with the same speed rating. I have used some older MP chips (MP2000) in the D+ boards without problems. The MP2600 chip is about $100 less than the 2800, and I doubt you would see a big speed difference between the two if the 2800
worked.

anyone know a radio shack P/N for the cap, also anyone have some pics of the locations? I can host them, and put a link up. if someone can send them to me. Is there a possibility to get it to work w/o the mod? I read one post that someone had done it, but just curious if theres been more than one. I had a 2100+ tbred that i just rma'd thinking it was the chip, but came here and realized that its not cupposed to:P
Thanks
edit: i was going to order from digikey, but after shipping and handling the $1 cap would cost $15.

I went into Radio Shack several months ago and got a 1000 mF capacitor rated at 16 WVDC maximum that had a part number of 272-958.
I was back in the store the other day looking for the same part for my son's board and they had none in stock. The salesman just looked at me, shrugged and said he was sorry.
they still carry them, I bought a bunch of parts the other day for a project from school. they will probly have them back later.

Does it have to be 10v? just wondering if the 16v will work also. Also one more thing If I do the mod its backwards compatible so I can go back to a pally right?
Thanks
edit: what bios are most peole using with the tbreds and the hack?

I think most are using the current 2ba7 bios. It SHOULD be backwards compatable since the ones that are done at soyo are able to use both, but i cant be sure

fiveohhh - yes the 16 volt cap will work fine if it can physically fit
in the space available on the board. Use bios 2BA7 after the mod to properly id the cpu chip. The mod will still alllow you to use any of the older pally chips.
