There's also a story on it at the ars-technica.com homepage with a little bit of commentary and a link to their discussion about the topic.

I'm quite skeptical as well but as for the validity of the source, this is not the Inquirer supermarket tabloid paper. Though sometimes written in such a way at times, ive found the news reported by this site to be quite accurate especially in their predictions of the NV30 specs, R300 specs, and lots of other things in recent times.

I hear about that. I don't see why firewalls and routers would be illegal, the ip is the same. Your not hidding where you are.

I live in South Carolina. Our legislature is full of backwards, poorly educated, redneck jerkoffs. This is the same crowd that would like to fly the Confederate flag from the Capital dome. I am ashamed to live in this pathetic state and I can't wait to graduate and move!

If these clowns think they can make me uninstall Norton Internet Security, they are on more crack than usual. What a bunch of pathetic asz clowns.

I doubt that they would have the resources to enforce it if it is actually becomes part of the law there.

No, they wouldn't. This state is dead last in everything. We beat the most women, waste the most money, have the lowest literacy rate in the nation, and our budget is a joke.

Though it shows the stupidity of tech-challenged polititans I doubt these laws will fly... (if these guys know what a firewall is) after all the US government did reccomend that people start using firewalls and such to bolster computer security... and if the law does pass then I am sure it will be repealed quickly when
    a. The government sites are routinely defaced a la the RIAA website.
    b. Companies start complaining about the lack of security.

the various states bills all require the banning the use of any technology that conceals "the existence or place of origin or destination of any communication."
That means when I have gone out with a few friends after work and sent my wife a txt message so that she can't tell that I'm in a club from the background noise over the phone, then I will in fact be breaking the law as I have done this to conceal the 'place of origin' of this txt message.
It started off when I needed to get a computer, I thought wouldn't it be nice to build 1. And I did, it was small, 300mhz K6-2 but it did the job. Then AMD broke the 1ghz barrier, and I had to have 1, now I just crave power, must have more.....eehahahahahahah

never happen. big corporations depend on these things for security. what's not good for them doesn't go into effect.
