hi....thanx for your post..... but i have i question for u and for all other ....i updated my BIOS to my FRN2-L to D1L to D1.3L...all thing been well but i my bios the ABS temp seem wrong...my computer is cold i go right to the and check the temp and its write 50°C ...that imposible....i go to windows to view the temps to Soltek Hardware Monitor and MBM v5.3.2.0 and both surrounding 30°C,and when i finish to play about 2 hours i quit my game go see the MBM and Soltek Soft and both a write the same temp(_surrounding 45°C_)...i rapidly reboot ,go to see the temp in the BIOS in the ABS II and the BIOS read 55°C and sometime more ...i have a sensor under my cpu and the temp write im my front case and is surrounding the same as MBM and the Soltek soft. so since i update my bios to vD1.3L my bios temp under the ABS II is very hi compare to MBM,Soltek soft and my case temp sensor under my cpu.... so which one do you think is the real temp ???
    Thanx

When you are in BIOS the CPU is under load (not full but partial). It is normal for CPU temps to be higher than idle(in windows) when you are in BIOS. The real CPU temp is ABSII, and it is very accurate. Please open a seperate thread if you have any more temp questions. I am trying to keep this thread for tips only. Thanks!

If anyone is having the ' cant post after changing bios settings ' problem, then your vcore on the cpu isnt high enough ( well here at least it isnt ) to allow it to start.

Didnt have much luck in holding down the Insert key when resetting or just after powering up, but if you hold it down BEFORE powering up, it will should come back to life first time

With help from these forums I have a Barton 2500+ running on my SL-75DRV5.

This previous thread contains all the information to set it up successfully http://www.amdforums.com/showthread...threadid=231134

Some information you may want to know:
When using the SW2 dip switch to set the FSB to 166 the 1/5 divider was enabled on my DRV5. I checked it using AIDA32 thanks to jsc1973.(this post is in the link above)

To get the Barton to run I had to flash the BIOS to 1.8 and use the settings iguanaman3 had posted......http://www.amdforums.com/showthread...threadid=198098

The problem I had was after flashing the BIOS I put my Barton in and I could not get into the BIOS to change the skew settings that iguanaman describes. So i had to put my Palamino back in, then setup the skew settings, then put the Barton back in.
From then on it ran sweet.

So for anyone trying to get a Barton to run on a DRV5, leave your existing CPU in the board, flash the BIOS to 1.8 then set the skew settings to iguanamans specifications, then install the Barton.

    Hope this helps

    SL-75FRN-RL post/boot problem solution

    Hi all,

This is just an fyi thing that may save someone an RMA and time, its a bit long because i wanted to give some detail so you would know if you might have the same problem.

Deciding to try AMD, I had recently purchased a Soltek SL-75FRN RL board with a xp2400+ cpu, installed it and didnt get anything...just a black screen...no post, no beeps...nothing...just a keyboard flashing the ctrl, num, and scroll lights.

I tried all the solutions i could find here and then after no avail, I posted a question looking verification that the board or cpu was bad. I got confimation that blinking lights were probably a bad cpu or mobo and that i should try another cpu....i bummed one from a friend and the posted right up...so i rma'd the cpu.

Two weeks later I received the replacement and got the same prob...geez...i've never had probs with intel....

Well, after repeatedly trying all the same solutions, remove everything, clear cmos, replace, pwr up, hold insert, again and again...i mean, how could it not work, i finally came across the solution.

One of my last attempts at booting, I have a Volcano 9 w/ cpu thermal sensor attachment, well i happened to leave this out and OMG....the sys posted....

I removed the cooler replaced the sensor...nothing...removed the sensor...it booted right up...go figure...when i had tried my friends cpu i guess i had also left the sensor out.

So if anybody out there has a posting/boot prob...try this...all i can figure it that the sensor is shifting when i latch the cooler down and is bridging something that shouldnt be bridged...and I removed the cooler several time and replaced the sensor several times in different positions and never got it to boot with the sensor in... what are the odd?

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share my pain, confusion and 2 weeks of waiting on a new cpu to arrive when the first one was prob good... :-) and hopefully this will help someone out.

Should we have a new sticky thread with hardware mods for Soltek MB's? For example volt mod for 75frn series would be very usefull since many users are limited by the 1.85vcore limit.

    Thermalright SP-94
    Mushkin DDR3500 Level II
    PSU: Q-TEC 550W
VGA: Tyan 9800Pro-M (the good one!)

I'm not really fond of a lot of sticky's in a forum because they clutter up the place and are distracting. I think this thread would be a good spot to include a hardware mod though. I'll add the word 'mod' to the thread title....

Did the vmod with a 25k resistor but gained only 0,7v. Any reason for this?

Sorry for the mistake. It was 0,07V

way to high, try a lower resistor, I used a 10k, gives 2.05 Volts.
I recently bought a new PSU and I'll go for a 8k resistor. I'll let this forum know what the results are.

    Bork,
I tried again the mod this time i am using a variable 0-100 KOhm resistor between pin 7 and ground. Before doing anything I measured the resistance between these two points and it was about 9,5 KOhms. Do you have the same readings?
When powering up should I have the resistor at the maximun resistance just to be safe and then start lowering it?

got the mod working!!!!! I can increase my vcore as much as i like!!! I have added 0,2v to my vcore so I can reach 2,05v. this gave me a push over 2450MHz. I expect with better cooling I will pass the 2,5GHz mark.

Great news. How about posting a step by step 'how to' on this mod, possibly with pics? I can host the pics if you can't. Just email them to me.

I started my own thread with this, then gwhunt23 suggested I put it here... prolly shoulda just put it here to begin with

    * Non-standard keyboard can cause probs *
So I finally got around to clocking up the system last night and got only as far as 10x202MHz, but that's OK. Stock cooling and cheap infineon RAM means I won't go much higher for now.

I tried 205 and got the no screen long beep lock on boot-up, but that's OK, I've learned enough from you guys that I didn't even sweat it. Set clear CMOS jumper, remove battery, unplug power, and VGA cable and wait. Plug it all back in and hold insert... same lock up. Redo the whole shabang, same long beep and no POST. Goddammit!!! Hm and ha and look at my old IBM keyboard, it's the kind with a positive 'click' when you type and something occurs to me, that this keyboard doesn't seem to act normal sometimes, I think it came from an IBM system so maybe they have their won way of mapping or pinning a keyboard. So I stick in a junk $10 keyboard, hold insert and it boots just fine. All the keys work fine on the IBM, but it's some kind of non-standard which just doesn't work right.

Before you RMA after clocking too high, try using a different keyboard if you have one available!!

So you won't need mine info anymore
how many KOhm did you use?
I think you have the 1st Vcore modded FRN2.
