Im no guru on overclocking, but with right cooling and the right mobo, for example the abit nf7-s nforce board, which people are using to overclock with great results with no mods out of the box, bartons are very good oclockers. My xp2500 is overclocked by ~400 mhz that puts it above an xp3000 in the xp3200 range. I saved a good amount of money with this chip. Plus i can push my cpu higher, and it can run every benchmark. For example i can push my cpu up to close to 2.4ghz, run 3dmark01 stable, sandra, memtest.. run apps like forgotten battles - il2 with no probs. I can get my cpu up to 2.4 but i dont have the right cooling to really run that 24/7.

Multiplier adjustability depends on the mobo your going to use. So basically they are unlocked, but the multiplier, at least on the asus A7N8x board is maxed at 12.5 im not sure if you can adust it higher on other boards.

i cant get my system to run stable when i up the fsb even a lil

    here is what i got:

    a7n8x (non deluxe) 1003 bios
    xp2500
    TWINX1024-2700LL

my guess would be the ram holding me back. when i had an xp2000 i was able to crank up the fsb. should have gotten the 3200LL?

however to keep this post in line with the topic, my 2500 runs great as a 2800, 12.5X166

    2500+ OC Update...

New board, Asus A7N8X-Deluxe Rev. 2.0 (1003 Bios):

    Right now I'm running @ 2.38ghz 11.5x207 with a voltage of 1.75
Temps are at 35c idle, 41c load, very good indeed
I'll play with it some more this week after I get another stick of 512mb DDR 3200, but so far I'm very impressed with the Asus board combined with the 2500+

The 2500's have been around for almost two months on pricewatch and with the online vendors. I hope you didn't get the 2700 thinking it was also a Barton due to the 333FSB, the 2700's are TBred B's which have the 256k L2 with 333FSB.

I was told that the XP2500+ had a ceiling of 2500mhz, so I tried to push it all the way, and not only reached it, but passed it by 35mhz. Although, I must admit, it was a bit "scarey"!

I used a Volcano 9 HSF at full (deafening) speed with the case open. This mobo's NB rarely let's you get passed about 185FSB without exceptional cooling, so I modded a CPU HSF to keep the NB cool. I switched my RAM for Corsair XMS3500 512MB and started at 13 X 166 at std Vcore with RAM & AGP at +0.3v and increased FSB by 5 each time.

Reached 2400mhz at std Vcore with 13 X 185, but became unstable. Increased Vcore +5%, ran a bit warm, but stable. (46'C - Full Load)

    Ran 13 X 190 @ +7.5% Vcore, posted as 2468 and ran stable.

Ran 13 X 195 @ +7.5% Vcore, posted as Athlon XP 2535mhz running at 58'C full load. Survived SISoft Sandra Burn-in Wizard, but crashed, quite dramatically, during PCMark. On reboot, the BIOS failed and the back up BIOS came into play. System booted up to Windows desktop, then crashed again. Had to flash both BIOS'S to get it to reboot at default speeds.

I don't know whether the cpu or the mobo gave in first. I suspect it was the mobo with the bios's becoming corrupt.

Therefore, my best overclock with this Barton XP2500+ is 2400mhz @ 13 x 185 +5% Vcore. (2468mhz @ +7.5% Vcore was stable but too hot)

    Best overclock with regular cooling, PC2700 and the case closed, was 2339mhz @ 13 X 180, +5% Vcore, 44'C/50'C

I have tried lower multi's but the FSB will not go above 197!

    24/7 settings,
    2.2Ghz @ 13 X 169, Std Vcore, 36'C/42'C - COOL, QUIET and FAST!

    Brian.

    Bump and here's mine

    AQXEA 0323 WPAW

    Currently at 220 x 11 at 1.7vcore Dual Channel 11-3-3-2
    Temps 35idle/42load

The highest i've gone is240 x 10 single channel at 2.9v with extremely relaxed timings but even then i got memory errors. Now EpoX seems to have taken away the 10x multi with their lastest bios.
