    Asus TI4200 V9280 Driver Question

    Hi Guys,

Building a new computer with this video card and installing the drivers that came on the CD, I think they are Nvidia reference driver 34.01 or something like that. The card seems to install fine, but I would like to run Driver 30.82. I downloaded 30.82 from Nvidia and install them but in control panel the driver does not change. I noticed when I install the 30.82 driver it creates a folder on my C drive call "Nvidia" and puts all the driver files there. I have tried to update driver through device manager and point it to that Nvidia foler on C drive with no success. Anyway, I must be doing something wrong. Every other Nvidia card I have owned I would just download the new Nvidia driver in an EXE file and run it, the new driver would show in control panel. So whats the trick to installing a driver with this ASUS card.....LOL!

    Thanks guys!!

That is normal that the Nvidia directory appears, that is the way the newer drivers install now. The Asus drivers offer additional utilities, such as your AGP temperature and such. Either set of drivers will work fine..

Heh its not an asus problem. Why dont you just a program like det destroyer or use safe mode to completely remove your files and the folder in C. Then install the LATEST drivers from nvidia. 43.45 or at least 41.09...

Let me try explaining again. I have completely uninstalled the Nvidia folder and Nvidia drivers. It has no effect of the video card. When I install the drivers off the cd that come with the card, it does not create a nvidia folder in the C drive. It's like when I install the drivers downloaded from Nvidia, that they dont see my video card, but install to the C drive Nvidia folder anyway.

After installing the video card for the first time, I did not even install the drivers off the CD, WindowsXP new hardware found wizard came up and I just cancelled out of it. I tried to install the 30.82 which I downloaded from Nvidia. I restarted computer and the new hardware found wizard appeared again telling me that installing the 30.82 EXE file had no effect on the card.

    any ideas??

First of all I am a bit confused. Your system specs show that you had a different video card....But now you have an Asus 4200 right?

I must ask you if you made sure to remove your old card under display adapters in device manager and delete the drivers thru add and remove programs, then shutdown.... before you installed your new video card.
I am not aware of any driver version of 34.01 so I am not sure if these drivers could leave registry entries behind. You should investigate just a little more to see what drivers you had installed....So we can make sure they are totaly gone!

And yes you are correct..All Nvidia drivers from Nvidia have a self extracting installer...So you dont want to look for any INF file and install that way when you have the Nvidia.exe driver.

What I am thinking has happened is windows has left overs from your older video card and drivers still hanging around.

Just a note...DONT update to any Nvidia driver including 41.09 or newer or you will loose DVD support on your DVD drive. Nvidia has incorportated the Macrovision crap into the driver for copy protection and this will make your DVD player No longer play DVD's ANY DVDs... So stick to any driver below 41.09..

If you go to the top of the page and look at my original post.......I am building a NEW computer. There are no previous drivers installed. The drivers that come with the ASUS CD are version 34.10. As I said the only way I can get drivers loaded are from the CD that came with the card. Downloading ANY version of drivers from NVIDIA in an EXE file will not update the drivers. I have tried numerous times and have used a couple different utilities that are supposed to remove any remnant drivers from a previous install. But everytime I delete all the drivers and try installing the ones I download from NVIDIA, they just wont install. All the NVIDIA drivers do is create a folder on the C drive and thats it. After installing the downloaded NVIDIA drivers and I reboot.....the new hardware found wizard again returns, which tells me that the drivers did not install.

When I first built the system and booted into windows for the first time, Windows XP did not even load default drivers for the card, the new hardware found wizard came up. I cancelled out of the wizard, installed the drivers I downloaded NVIDIA and rebooted........the new hardware wizard came up again.

    Frustrated......
