    A very annoying pausing issue

    first, system specs: giga-byte 7vax, athlon t-bred 1800+, 9500 pro, 512 crucial pc2700.

my problem: after about 15 minutes after i reboot and start playing any game, my system begins to stutter. when i play unreal tournament, it stutters continuously. when i play a game like wc3, it pauses every 3 seconds. this problem wasn't too bad at first, but now i just can't stand it.

i've tried: reinstalling vid card a few times, using a different driver version each time. and i tried updating my bios.

has anyone else had this problem? or know of a reason that my pc is giving me this problem?

first guess, sound card issues. disable sound (all of it in your game) and see if that cures it. You could also try disabling the sound card itself (whether its onboard audio or a seperate card doesnt matter) to see if that fixes issue. If it does, you know what you have to fix.

I also suggest you visit the Gigabyte forum here at Amdmb.com for further questions to decide where the problem is.

    Stuttering cure

I also had stuttering in my system in Windows XP. All the posts on the subject indicates it can be caused by various issues.
My system was cured by enabling Advanced Power Management support in Control Panel/Power Options properties under the APM tab. Some installations will not show this tab depending on ACPI motherboard compliance.
I play Microsoft Flight 2002 and it was heavily affected by this stuttering and made it impossible to play/enjoy.
When I start MSFS2002 now it stutters a little to begin with, then disappears after a few minutes.
Weird, yes, but I can live with this!!

Tigsman: ill try disabling the sound, mebbe even uninstalling the sound card.

Fragmentum: ill check that APM option before i uninstall/reinstall anything first. that's what i've been doing for two days lol.

ty for the input, it's been helpful to say the least

    scootyhooo,
Did you have an APM tab in Control Panel/Power Options properties to enable Advanced Power Mnagement option?
Also check in BIOS to make sure ACPI is 'enabled' so the two can talk to each other.
    Let us know...

Do you have a CD-RW running Nero? My liteon does and the packet reading part constantly checked to see of there was a cd in the drive - drove me nuts (ever see the Unreal Tournament intro stutter? with a Ti4200? yikes) 'till I figured it out by killing running apps one by one. Hope it's that easy

This seems to be a problem with ATI's cards. My friend has a 9700 Pro, and whenever he plays a game or runs 3dmark, it skips every few seconds
