About ready to start over!

I am pulling my hair out over installing the Java plugin into RedHat 9...... I have went over the directions thrice over! I suppose it could be the fact that I get sidetracked with the wife and kid, and don't get to work on this till late.... Well, maybe tomorrow morning early I will try one more time... I am getting frustrated though.....

netracer, that thread tells how to install the Java interpreter, but not the browser plug-in. The plug-in is installed by creating a symbolic link form the Mozilla plug-in directory (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins) to the Java plug-in file (<java_dir>/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so). I'm having trouble with it too. I don't normally use java because I don't like it, but I want to use 'stat-tracker' for my yahoo fantasy baseball team and I tried to install java today and symlinked the plugin in the ns610 directory to /lib/mozilla/plugins/ but it doesn't show up in Help->AboutPlugins, but I haven't gotten a chance to futz with it or look at google. If I figure it out I will leave a post.

Which version of Java are you trying to use, 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 beta?

Can someone please explain what it means to "make a symbolic link?" Sorry, true newbie here... Is it so simple as creating a text document and saving it as a .so file?

It explains it in that link Markkuk gave you. Its essentially a more powerful version of a shortcut in windows.

No, 1.4.1_02 works fine for me in RHL9. How about your version of Mozilla? Standard Red Hat 1.2.1 or some later version from mozilla.org (1.3 or 1.4)?

BIG THANKS to you guys! I finally got the JAVA plugin to work. I think I was just giving it the wrong path or something every time... Goes to show you that you shouldn't work on Linux when you are tired! Now after I get the media player plugged in, I will be in high times! Thanks again for the help!
