Do you have a link light?
Can you get an IP from a DHCP source (ie. ISP or firewall)?

And have you tried reinstalling the driver for the NIC?

Has it been working before and just stoped working?

This thread is for a different board, and I am not familiar with yours, but if it uses a Realtek chip for 10/100, this may pertain. Good luck.

If there is no link light it is a PHYSICAL problem. If you have a static IP, even without a connection Windoz will assign it the IP, and if it is set to automatic (AKA DHCP assigned), even without a connection Windoz will assign a default bull crap IP to it (pretty stupid if you ask me). Anyway, you should have a little icon that says network cable disconnected, I would think. I would try a new cable and make sure there is power to all other switches and things of that nature... If this is not the problem, let me know and I will give you some more avenues of troubleshooting...

Hi Vision ... the light was on, and its still on. I e-mailed MSI support and they told me this:

If you can get into internet fine, this indicates that the Nic onboard is working. May want to check you domain password and user name. Maybe setting in windows. ... thats a quote.

I've been messing around in windows but cannot find any domain password I may have even set

    Thanks for your help

There are four fields in the Network diagnostic test(modems and network adapters section) that indicate pass or fail. They are - default gateway, DHCP server, DNS Server Search order, and IP address. Run the test again and tell us if all or one of these fail. You did run the Network diagnostics scan correct?. I believe if only one of these fail the adapter will fail. Please post results.

If it is still a DNS error, I would call or email my ISP and make sure you have the right addresses for DNS set. Did this problem just start happening or were you installing your OS and it happened or what?

If it just started happening I would make sure my virus definitions were up to date and run a virus scan...

    Let me know....

It is DNS server search that fails. Everything else passes fine.
Thanks again for your help guys!

Ok, I agree with The Visionary then. Make sure that you have the correct DNS specified in TCPIP settings. Also, try turning off your firewall in case it is blocking access to them somehow.

In windows, on your desktop, right click on 'My Network Places', then click on properties. Right click on your local area connection then click on properties. Select TCPIP then click on properties. Click on the advanced button, then the DNS tab. Add the IP address/es of your DNS server/s there.
