Here's a good place to read user reviews of the DVD writers.

Look for the Sony all format DRU510A.
A cheaper unit, but no multi format, would be the Pioneer A05.
These two are the best available.
Understand though, the technology to make 1:1 copies of dual layer DVDís is not available yet. You will end up spanning the contents of a dual layer DVD to two single layer DVD-Rs (the movie on one disk and the extras on another).
Iíll wait for the dual layer recording technology to come out before I buy a DVD-RW.
    Have fun!

    Single Format: NEC ND-1100A DVD+R = $150
    Dual Format: Optorite DC0230 = $200

Both available @ newegg. Used the NEC for a month and sold it to buy the Optorite. Both are excellent writers for the money. I heard the NEC is kinda picky about media. I only use FujiFilm/Ricoh 2.4x DVD+R from BestBuy. Nero 551038 as the burn app. Not a single coaster. Burns in 23 min. Plays on stand alone Sony DVD player and PS2.

    AMDMaddness,

What software do you use to make your DVD's compatible for your use in your VCR.

Is there a site that will help me to understand better how to edit and burn digital video to DVD disk. I thought it would be self evident to burn a video to dvd and use it in my VCR, but apparently not. I tried using Easy CD creator 6.0 and it appeared as though it was going to work in my vcr, but it didn't appear to finish or something. I can't even get it to play on my computer.

I recently purchased a Sony DRU-510A and would like to burn my old home vhs movies to DVD and also my current home movies to DVD. This can't be that hard, can it? My current camcorder will convert the old vhs to digital to download to my computer, but I must be missing something on how to burn it to DVD for playback on my VCR.

    Clear up this mystery, please.

    Best site i've found is

www.dvdrhelp.com for anything to do with dvd+vcd

Theres also guides + links on how to copy dual layer dvd into one dvd using freeware programs . The results are hardly any different to the original dvd .
