Besides, you should have sandra on your computer already
I already did, I was just bugged that they wouldn't accept just CPU-Z as they claimed they use it themselves to troubleshoot.....
Follow up 4: used Sandra same problem. Mushkin accepts and issues RMA. I have to pay for shipping it back to them. This is one of my all-time pet-peeves...I hate having to pay to ship something back, when it's not my fault the item is defective. But such is life...
Mushkin emails me and ships the new chip next day...fair enough. Package arrives and is another PC2100!, only this time it's 512 megs and no heat-spreader.
Of course now I have a problem. I like the ram increase, but I wanted the 2700, it is what I paid for. I'm not a big overclocker (soyo board!), but I wanted to kick up my 2400xp to 2600 and use my machine to its full potential.
My question is at this point does it matter? Should I just be happy with the extra Ram? Is 2100 enough and does the extra Ram balance out the loss of timming? Or should I send it back?

No! Don't let them pull this crap again... tell them you want the stick of memory that you ordered, and that you don't want to pay for shipping again!
Unless you're happy with the stick you have now . Although, encourage bad customer support is not a good thing.

More Ram is always good and I was tempted to eBay the thing, but I would still end having to pony up for another chip...not worth the annoyance and of course, you know the day I sell it, Muchkin calls looking for it.
Follow up 5:
Called Mushkin, the guy seemed annoyed (not at me) that they shipped a 512 meg chip to me. I don't think there was a record of the error in the system, because he asked where i got it from. He was also a little surprised that i complained about it....
Didn't have to tell them about shipping, he offered to pay. Let you know tomorrow.
Staples rocks, except they're pretty stupid as well.
Last Sunday I went there at 5:30 (they close at 6), and bought a Maxtor 120GB 8mb hdd. Take it home, tear it open, pop it in my comp, turn on comp "SCREEEECH, CLICK CLICK CLICK" are the variety of sounds I heard from my comp. I immediately think of the new hdd, so I unplug the power to it, and sound is gone. I take it out to inspect the drive. No full-top label on top (where's my maxtor label at?! ), but there's a label that is about the size of an address stamp that reads: "NEC 1991.12.10".
Hmm, obviously not a Maxtor drive, but a NEC drive - manufactured in 1991!! Let alone is this not a Maxtor, it obviously isn't 120GB either since they didn't manufacture GB hdds in 1991.
I package it up, and the next morning, bright and early I'm there for the store openning. I walk in, go to the service desk and tell them "I came in yesterday to buy a harddrive and what I got is not what I paid for." So the chick (she was hot ) gets another employee to unlock the hdd case, I grab a different 120GB (the labels were different too..hmm...), open it up in the store and voila! "Maxtor" and "120GB" right on the top label of the drive.
Take it home and it's quiet as heck.
Needless to say, I'm not sure if Staples' stock is so trustworthy. :P
Holmes, call Mushkin and ask to speak with Nathan...he is extremely personable and should rectify the situation. I too had a bad stick of RAM (it became faulty after a year) and they shipped me the wrong stick twice. It was their mistake so they sent along a prepaid shipping label the first time, and the second gave me their Fed-Ex account number.
Good luck with the situation, but Nathan would be the person to speak to...he's helped me out with multiple situations in the past.

Actually Nathan answered the phone when I called. They sent the Ram and return shipping label, next day air and he followed up with an email to make sure i was satisfied.
Ram was what it was supposed to be and the machine booted up without a problem. CPU-Z sees it as a 2700.
Now if I can just get this chip (2400+) to overclock I'd be a happy camper...so all's good. Never did find out what was wrong with the first chip though...
