The Celerons are "toned down" P4's. The have less cache on the chip and less support for instruction sets. For general windows/internet/office use, Celerons work well.

thanks for the reply but whats confusing me is that the celeron m has a fsb of 400 cash is 256k and sse2 and i have saw p4s whit the same seup 400 fsb 256k sse2 . i no the newer p4s have 512k thay more or less run the same specs as the desk tops do jst lower volts and i no the desk top celerons have a 128k cash it looks like the m class are dif i now see some new celerons 2.0 and up whit only 128k so is there any dif in the oder 1.8 p4 and the celeron 1.8 both same cash and fsb ?

The P4s with 256 cache are the older Williamette core P4s. They were actually slower than the p3s they replaced. The "new" Celerons have a bumped up cache to 256 from 128. To answer your questions, getting 256 cache p4 is waste of time. Go with a Celeron, or get a Northwood core p4 (512 MB cache, 400 or 533 FSB). Low end laptops with the desktop based p4 northwood can be had pretty cheap these days.
