DVI-D is the digital subset of DVI. DVI-I is DVI-D plus the analog (DVI-A if you will) VGA signal. DVI-D connectors are not really seen anymore on vid cards; it has been replaced by DVI-I.

The DVI-D connector looks like the DVI-I one, except without the extra pins next to the "+" shaped area.

Yes, you would need a special box to convert DVI-D to VGA. I don't even think such a thing exists, as there would be next to no market for it.

HDTV's do not use DVI-D, LCD's do but have a DVI-I connector. The connector is the same as DVI-I, though, but on HDTV's it is called DVI-HDCP (high def content protection).

DVI-I (the connector in use in everything) has both an analog and digital component. DVI-D signals are carried on DVI-I, get it now?

ok...tell me what you want to do.

Where is the DVI-D connector? video card? must be an old card, then, because almost all of them from the past 2 years have a DVI-I connector. What kind of card is it?

And, yes, the lcd monitor is DVI-I, but it uses the digital part of the connector.

If you have recent hardware, everything should be DVI-I, ecxept HDTV's which have the dvi-i connector but a different signal.
