Well, Ive had my Sounstorm certified mobo for a while now on a set of altec lansing 400 watt 641 4.1 analogs, and they sounded great. I recently upgraded to Logitech Z680 with digital coax connection, and WOW. Soundstorm ROCKS!!!

So I guess there have been no developments on a "SoundStorm Booster" yet?

Would be so nice if there was a box which would connect to the S/PDIF and decode to 5.1 output. This device could be useful for so many things. I don't think I'm ready to blow the bank for Logitech Z-680's yet, but it seems a shame to let the SoundStorm go to waste.

I have got Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 speakers. Do you think that soundstorm would change anything for me?

Currently i have an Epox KT400 mobo which uses onboard Realtek AC97 audio.

As per the first post on this thread, No.
Soundstorm is DIGITAL only. Those Altec speakers are analog. buy a new soundcard or get digital speakers(with a decoder) to use soundstorm.

    cheers.

Ok, thank you lidistick. I was thinking that it would make a difference even with an analog set in terms of sound quality.

Z-680 has its own DD decoder, so you need to disable the one on your MB. So, you really don't have a full usage for your sounstorm if you want to get Z-680. Same thing for audigy 2.

the MB does not have a DECODER. only a DD ENCODER.
so the mobo encodes the signal and the Z-680 DEcodes the signal.

where does the A2 come into play here?
and you WILL get full functionality of soundstorm using the Z-680.
    Cheers.
