This is an analog set. Not a good match for soundstorm.

    Midiland decoder

I have my z-560 connected to Midiland decoder ADS4000 DD reciever. It sounds pretty good, has 4 inputs, 2 coax, 1 optical, and one analog (Front L/R , Read L/R)

One thing is that you have to buy a stereo miniplug to RCA converter.

Watching movies in DD5.1 sounds awesome but songs doesn't seem to have a significant effect. Also, I can't seem to find a game that really spits out cool effects in DD5.1

Can anybody recommend me a game in which you can hear good effects of DD?

    Thanks

    videologic digitheatre

don't think these have been listed yet -
happily using these with my nf7-s (optical out)
no DTS but a lot cheaper than the digitheatre DTS. (they can now be had for about £140 in the UK)

    Hi guys -

I did some searching... and what do you all think of Soundstorm and these:

    http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?prodid=124

Also, I have a Gigabyte 7NNXP. Does this have soundstorm? I didn't see it on the list.

    Thanks!

you will only be able to get PCM stereo from those speakers. I don't know if the gigabyte mobo has the MCP-T southbridge. interesting to note that the megaworks 250D has onboard DAC's.

    get the A2 ZS.

Re: Speakers that will match Soundstorm

    Hi all,

Well this is a big thread I am on the market for a new set of speakers, however I'm a bit tight and don't want to spend much. I have an Abit NF7-S, with which I currently have 4-point sound via the analogue connectors. If I can, I'd like to upgrade to a digital solution, however I will have to cope with analogue if digital is above my price range. However, the new speakers must have at least a subwoofer and 4 satellites - so that while playing games, for instance, I can hear if things are happening to the sides or behind me.

I saw some speakers which caught my eye, however a lack of information on them is stopping me from buying them: http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=10929. They are exceptionally cheap, which makes me believe that they have no decoder - however they do have optical input. If they have no decoder, what would happen if I plugged my NF7-S into them? Would I get no sound? Or maybe just audio from the front speakers?

For speakers that definitely say that they have a decoder, the cheapest I've seen are Logic 3 SoundStation 5.1 and the Creative Inspire GD580. I have no idea if either of these are any good, and really they are a bit over what I want to pay - I think I'd rather just get some analogue ones instead

So really I'm a bit confused. Great thread, shame so much of it still goes over my head :/ So I'd like some advice, please

    Thanks,
    Dave

Eke 5.1 seems to have an AC-3 decoder but I'm not sure. any way to call and check? If there was no decoder, you'd only get stereo but as this is a 5.1 set, I'm more inclined to believe that it actually has a decoder.

The new Inspires are a decent set of speakers but the bass is still pretty poor.

analog speakers are still a good buy IMHO. you can always always buy a separate soundcard later on and keep the speakers instead of buying cheap 'digital speakers'.

    Cheers.

I have written to the company to ask if it has one, but I don't know if they'll bother replying. I am led to believe that it does indeed have a decoder, for the same reasons as you. I did think for a while that perhaps it was just *too* cheap for a system with decoder, however I have since found the Acoustic Solutions DS533 to be the same price but *definitely* has a decoder. Reviews on this set are not bad, either.

As you can probably tell, I'm really not fussed on fantastic sound quality. I just want to update my ancient setup, where I've connected the front and rear output from my mobo to two seperate old hi-fis I bought at car boot sales. It all looks very silly and having some speakers that are connected via a single optical cable would be so much nicer and cleaner.

    Cheers
    Dave
