Re: The New Duron With Applebred Core! Another Overclocking Dream Come True!!

    "The thread that won't die."

Hi all!! I spent my entire morning reading this thread, pretty cool!!!

Can anyone tell me what kind of chip this is? I'm getting a soltek nf2 for it, it's currently on a ASUS A7V266-E, 12*165, burned a network card because the board doens't have a pci/agp clock lock... beyond 165fsb it does not boot's... no matter what voltage/memory i use with it, the board is holding it back.

    MIRFA 0346UPMW

It's the green package, how far do you guys think this puppy can go on a nf2 board?
Which core is it, the "A" or "B"?

Thanks in advance for the possible replies.
    Sorry for digging this up

The CPU should work just fine in a NF2 board. Is that CPU superlocked or can you adjust the multiplier? I forgot when it was that AMD started superlocking their CPUs.

The A in MIRFA would indicate it's a Tbred 'A' core, so not the best overclocker.

But still if the CPU is multiplier unlocked you could do a L2 mod and activate the rest of the 256KB L2 cache. At 2Ghz and in combination with a 166Mhz FSB that would be the same as a Sempron 2800+. If the multiplier is unlocked you can use a 200Mhz FSB or even higher resulting in a (if i'm correct) Sempron 3000+ or even higher.

I think the superlocked CPU's were 0340 and after.

0339 I think, because some people with 0339's are locked, and others are not.

Oke that would make his CPU superlocked. Not sure if it'll be worth buying a NF2 mainboard for it then. Since its a Tbred 'A' core it wont overclock really high. With good cooling and enough voltage maybe 2.2Ghz, but 2.1Ghz is probably more likely.
Since the multiplier is locked you'll only be able to get the FSB up to 183Mhz IF you can manage to run 2.2Ghz. Of course maybe your Tbred 'A' does even higher then 2.2Ghz, but i'm quite sure u'll never be able to run 12x200Mhz=2.4Ghz.

Re: The New Duron With Applebred Core! Another Overclocking Dream Come True!!

Well, I probably posted in this thread 70 or 80 pages back somewhere when I got my unlocked $40 Duron 1600 from Newegg and enabled the cache to make it an XP CPU. I never had much success with a big overclock, running the best at 171 FSB and 12x for a 2082 MHz speed, but the real deal is to get the FSB up higher. Well, I broke down and bought some Barton mobiles (have 2 now) and they overclocked quite nicely, and I replaced the old Duron/Applebred with a mobile CPU, retiring it to the "spares" drawer. The system that received the Moble CPU proved to be unable, at first, to run the mobile CPU at 200 FSB, and I pulled my hair some before realizing that using 3 sticks of memory (2-256 Meg and 1 512) did not give good overclocking results in my A7N8X-DLX 2.0 Asus Mobo. Some swapping of sticks with other systems resulted in the mobile running at 2300 no problem (ended up with 2 512 Meg sticks in the system). This prompted me to wonder if the same memory speed limitation had affected the old Applebred CPU overclocking results.

Well, some time passes, and I recently bought some refurb NF2 mobos from Newegg, so I pulled the old Applebred CPU out of storage to test out the new mobos, since they have a 30 day return warranty and needed to be exercised. Decided to see just how far the old Applebred could be pushed, so I began a new OC experiment in my refurb Biostar M7NCD-Pro and Ultra boards. And, almost to my amazement, the old Applebred would run 2200 Mhz / 200 Mhz FSB at 1.65v perfectly stable, all night memtest86 runs w/o error, but did not have a HD to test out Prime95. Anyway, still purring along, guess I'll have to drop that CPU in a system b4 long cuz it's still a darn good CPU, wow, best $40 I ever spent on computing up to this time.
    Regards,
    Kyle

Download Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) you can run tools like Prime95 from the CD.
