Exclamation The New Duron With Applebred Core! Another Overclocking Dream Come True!!

Gone buy one tomorrow! And here is why!

    CPU: Duron1600 'Applebred'
    Price: +/- 50$/Euro
    Clockspeed: 1600Mhz
    Vcore: 1.5v
    L1 Cache: 128Kb
    L2 Cache: 64kb
    FSB speed: 133 (2x = 266Mhz)

Here are the links where i got my info from:

    INFO
    BENCHMARK
ACTIVATING THE FULL 256KB L2 CACHE!
NOTE: Just read that the reason the full 256KB is not used might be because a part of the cache is bad. But you can still give it a try. If you have problems using the full 256KB you can cut the bridge again and connect another bridge to give 128KB cache a try. The site is in german, i'm sure there is a guide somewhere in english.

Oke, first of all these Applebred cores are based on the T-bred core. What the 3th link states is that there is 256KB L2 cache on the die, but just disabled. By connecting a L2 bridge you can activate the other 192KB cache and turn the Applebred Duron into an T-bred XP
And it looks like these CPU's are very overclockable as well!
They got it running at 2.3Ghz using 200Mhz (400Mhz)FSB using a Thermaltake Volvcano 7 cooler.
I'm told that some other guy even got it running at 2.5Ghz using a little more Vcore! Now ofcourse chances are these are pumped up rumours, but where there's smoke there is fire!!!

So to sum it up, for +/- 50$/Euro (I hope) i'll have a AMD Athlon XP (with the 256KB L2 cache) running at 2.3Ghz (or even more) using 200Mhz FSB(x2=400mhz) or even more!

It's 5:50am over here, should be getting some sleep, but maybe i'll just stay awake untill the shops open!

NOTE: I did some very fast research, but i did get this info from what it looks like pretty reliable sites. I didn't find a lot of different sources about the overclockability yet, since it's such a new CPU. I'm really thinking of buying one tomorrow. Maybe i can strengthen the overclocking rumours

wow, that's some ingenious marketing...lowering the cache on purpose...hahahaha!!

(kinda like when the downclocked a crapload of bartons to 2500+ cause all of their CPUs could run at 3000+ to 3200+ speed) LOL!!

Well i just got me my very own Duron DHD1600DLV1C MIXHB.
I did some benchmarks on my Athlon XP 1700+ JIUHB running at 10x200Mhz=2Ghz before i switched CPU's.
Now i'm gone try and run this Duron at 10x200Mhz=2Ghz and do the same benchmarks.
After that i might try the L2 mod to activate the complete 256KB L2 cache and try it again.
    I'll post my results here.

Well i got watercooling and using bios d1.0 with my ABIT NF7-S.
The bios reports temp way to high and because i got watercooling the temp will be much lower then for most people.
I'll post a screenshot here in a minute, first i have to run Prime95 for a little while to show it's stable (atleast for about 10minutes).
Then i'm gone leave it running for the night and tomorrow i'll try more Vcore. (i'm at 1.6Vcore now)

Oke here is a picture of my Duron 1600 Applebred. (i blackend a part of those numbers. I sometimes see that when CPU pictures are posted. Not sure why people do that, but since i don't know why i might just as well do it too

And here is a screenshot of it doing 2256Mhz at 1.6Vcore (default is 1.5Vcore)

More pics and benchmark results tomorrow.

Oke i'm at 2355Mhz now using 1.7Vcore, but as you can see in the screenshot my Vcore is kinda jumpy and undervolts to 1.68v once in a while. So i guess you could say this is at 1.68Vcore. Looks like i can add another 100Mhz for every 0.1v i add to the Vcore.

Darnit, i need a better PSU..

Oke i kinda hit a will and i think most parts it's because my PSU can't handle it anymore. It wasn't this obvious with my 1700+ JIUHB but i now have to set my Vcore in my bios to 1.95 to make sure the Vcore stays above 1.90v when i put load on the CPU.

I'm gone open op my PSU and see if i can fit a better fan in there, because it's getting pritty hot as wel. Maybe that'll help a little bit.
