Santiago upgraded the stock to "Outperform" from "MarketPerform," and raised the price target on the stock to $45.

I hope that happens!

Intel took it in the shorts today on yesterdays disappointing earnings, and speculation is rampant that it might be because of AMD....ya think? We'll find out later today when AMD reports. If AMD reports better tnah expected tomorrow coud be fun! Been a rough week though....

the markets killed AMD stock because they fear, rightfully, that INTC will re-start a price war. This has and always will be INTC's weapon against the smaller AMD. INTC is big and can afford it. Plus, in 6 months the competition might be different due to new architecture and multi-processor chips coming from both companies.

But for now, both companies need to look for ways to sell more chips - pc sales are so-so, and growth remains in the mobile market (laptops).

then bought $300 worth of intel stock!

I'm tempted to buy INTC stock also. They may be in a competitive position against AMD. Am I anti-AMD? Far from it! If we can make money off INTC stock, we can use the money to upgrade to a better AMD x2 processor

DELL Finally uses AMD chip in its pc's:

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Dell Inc. finally opened the door to using chips made by Advanced Micro Devices Inc., and the switch was cheered by investors.
After more than a year of speculation, the world's No. 1 personal-computer maker said late Thursday that it plans to use chips from AMD in its high-end server product line, sending AMD shares up more than 15% in evening trading to $35.65.

The decision ended Dell's longtime exclusive relationship with Intel Corp., AMD's larger rival, and pushed Intel shares down more than 5% late to $17.66.

The move came as Dell reported that first-quarter profit fell 18% and announced plans to restructure its operations.
In separate statements Thursday, Dell and AMD said that the computer maker will use AMD's Opteron server chip, which has helped eat into Intel's share of the worldwide server-chip market during the past year.
Opteron uses the equivalent of two electronic brains on a single piece of silicon, offering more horsepower while reducing power consumption. Market observers have said that Intel is playing catch-up with AMD in the server-chip area. Intel, the world's No .1 chipmaker, plans to roll out a more competitive offering in June, dubbed Woodcrest.
"The move to AMD chips is a major blow to the already weakened Intel," said Momin Kahn, an analyst at Technology Business Research.
In the first quarter, AMD increased its market share for so-called x86 server chips to 22.1%, from 16.4% at the end of 2005, according to Mercury Research.
"No one can ignore those facts," said Marty Seyer, senior vice president of commercial business at AMD. "[Dell's] customers were demanding Opteron."
Dell had been testing AMD's chips for more than a year, he added. He commented that Dell had been reluctant to sell AMD chips over concerns about the company's track record in the server market, as well as about its manufacturing capacity.
Intel, which has said that it aims to reclaim the market share it lost to AMD last year, will still provide the bulk of chips used in Dell's PCs and servers. "This is a competitive industry," Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said. "We work hard to win every piece of business."
The Dell-AMD relationship will have an insignificant impact on Intel's financials, he added.

even after the 15% rise, i still sold $4 higher at $39.70.........

i think at $17.66, intel is a bargain, as heads will roll, and lets face it, you can only screw up so many times before you get it right.

intels new processors will be very formidable, they have better yields, and ALOT more cash in the bank!

now if IBM was to buy AMD....... hmmmm....... that could give the boys in santa clara ALL they could handle!
