the intel cpu's tested against the fx-62 (2.8ghz) were possible running at 2.4ghz and 2.66ghz....... if this is true, then the k8l better be damn good when it comes out, and it better be on schedule if AMD wants to be competitive.........

bottom line, intel will soon be the performance leader. the question is....... for how long, and by how much!

also, amd stock is down to $31...... glad i sold at almost 40!

personally, i see intel stock rising over the next year, perhaps ending up around the level AMD is at now, although that is extremely optimistic.

maybe i should start a poll to see if i should change it to "AMD INSIDE, IDIOT OUTSIDE!"

one big advantage that intel has, is that they already use 65nm technology...... thus more cores/ wafer...... therefore they can make life hard on AMD's profit margin.

the biggest thing AMD has going for them at the moment, is the hypertransport, and onboard memory controller. and intel's current 4-way solution isn't one!

i have been an AMD fanboy since i first started buiding pc's in the late 90's, but i must admit, i have been very impressed with conroe!

The onboard controller gives it a performance boost but more expensive to enhance it late on. I guess a good balance is important.

thelmores, thanks for the link - I think INTEL is on the right track in competing against AMD. That's why AMD has corrected to $28.

It will be time to trade on an INTEL bottom, then use the profits to buy more AMD shares AND upgrade to AM2

Intel is a goliath - it recently started its usual tactic of cutting prices, so this should pressure AMD in the next few months. Conroe and the dual cores will be the thing to watch.

Intel also changed its strategy - a new architecture will be introduced every 2 years instead of 4. BUT how often has Intel delivered on time!!!

Go AMD and AM2! But first go Vista (so everyone will have to upgrade in the first place...)

fyi i stand corrected - intel just announced they will release their quad processor in Q3 instead of Q4.

AMD @ 18ish down $3.
Possible announcement that it will buy ATi on Monday. I like ATi, whose diversifying way from pc's. But AMD appears to think that buying Ati is a solution in its battle against Intel. Does this make sense?

Where does this leave NVDA? Or INTC/ATY? Or AMD mobos that use the NF chipset?

The deal doesn't make sense to me!

as usual trout, right on target! i believe AMD has finally saw the light, and concluded (rightfully so) that relying on 3rd party's for chipsets is a problem. also, i believe AMD is itching to get into the onboard graphics pie......

will be very interesting to see exactly what intel and nvidia does if this marriage takes place. also, i heard it was more of a "merger" than one company buying the other. does AMD have enough CA$H to buy ATI?

also another sign that it see's ways to make money, compete with intel, and who knows...... someday regain the ole "performance" lead.......
