Down goes AMD (stock) short-term because of this and secondly, because of the Conroe release (the price competition is going to be huge).

What does this mean for AMD motherboards? Will the Nvidia/AMD partnership be in trouble?

I think AMD will continue to develop chipsets with nVidia. Why wouldn't they? But they won't have to rely on third parties for chipsets so much.

As thelmores said we're gonna see onboard graphics on AMD/ATI mbs. Most likely the low end type boards and lappys. I'm more curious to see if the new AMD/ATI alliance focuses on some serious workstation/server chipsets and motherboards.

Yeah I'd like to see what they can come up with for 8 and 16 socket systems. Our latest modelling stuff maxes out the 16-way Opteron and 32-way Unisys pig. And while Woodcrest is fast all indications are the same bottlenecks will exist in these multi-socket systems. And I don't think AMD was too comfortable relying on nVidia for these chipsets.

It looks as though AMD's forecast is way too high and that its cash flows into ATI and manufacturing will hurt the stock. Intel looks to be taking the right steps, but other Semi's (SNDK) might make better trading stocks.

I think SNDK is nice but it, too, is in an environment where nand memory prices are falling, probably faster than cpu chips.

GOLDMAN SACHS downgraded AMD stock today, giving it a "sell" award because analysts think there will be an increase in costs and more price competition from its competitor Intel (INTC).

That sent its share price down after the NYSE opened - it currently stands at $20.35.

But it's an ill wind that also sent down the INTC price to $20.25, a decline of 17 cents.

With SSD now out (32GB flash hard drive!!) @ $600, we can see where stock trading might want to be in the interim - SNDK stock.

I can dump what little intel stock i have, and buy half as many shares of SNDK. And trust me, you could probably spend what I have invested in a grocery store, if you bought extra beer!

I just thought that there are several new fabs coming on-line, thus more inventory, normally that means lower prices, and lower profits......

but I like your foresight...... it was that same kinda foresight that I made a little mulla on AMD!

themores, I only pray for a few foresights for 2007! My negative foresight has proven correct: AMD is losing to Intel - they warned - the stock is down 11% this morning.

Sales are estimated to be about 47M lower...how many fewer chips is that?

does seem a little shady to tell analysts mid-dec that everything is great, then go out and borrow 250 million dollars!

I think intels price cuts are taking a toll on amd profits.....

And by mid next year, the ability to buy a core2 for less than $135 should further erode Ave Sell prices......

if AMD can get 65nm full bore, that should help some......

but frankly, i don't see much money being made on amd or intel....

but apparently there is money to be made somewhere, the market may close at a new high today....

I would sell AMD and buy more Intel for 2007. I'd add to MU and other various semi's if I were you - but i'm only saying that because you're a buy and holder for semi's which is almost unheard of

Read a report about AMD and am convinced that its desktop product line will face stiff competition. Intel's strength will likely accelerate, but its margins (profit it makes off sales) is higher in the notebook market.

Thought about it...but can't handle the capitol gains! Not right now, and I'm looking forward farther than 1 year.

I still see AMD doing well this year in the server market where profit margins are much higher. As an example I've been pricing out 16 - 64 way systems for a project, and Intel's offerring suck... basically P4 architecture and our 16 way 800 series Opterons stomped the 64-way Xeons (Paxville, Tulsa) at a fraction of the cost. Intel's C2D architecture will only be available in 2P systems (up to 8-way with quad core) which are nice systems but still lose out to 16-way Opterons, both 800 and 8000 series. All that will change later this year as AMD and Intel release MP quad cores, but there's a lot of unknowns and until then I'm keeping my investments with both.

You should have seen the look on the IBM guys faces when our Opteron system beat their flagship 64way Paxville. I couldn't help but saying 'Told you so'.
