    9800SE for 166 at newegg

just noticed on newegg.com that the sapphire 9800se is going for 166 now. thats about the same price as a 9600pro.

the 9800SE is better than a 9600pro right? considering the SE has the 9800 core but only 4 pipes i would think it would run faster?

If it does then the 9800se would be the budget card of choice over the 9600pro???

If it's the 256-bit version, I'd say the 9800SE is a better deal, by FAR. But if it's the 128-bit, then it's pretty close to being equal. They both have the same amount of pipelines, and the same memory bus. The 9600pro has a 22 MHz core advantage, while the 9800SE has a 39 MHz memory advantage (78DDR). Either way, it'll get owned by the 9600XT, since that has a 122 MHz core advantage, even if it still lags behind in memory speed. I think I'd go with the 9600pro before the SE though, as they are known to overclock well, and noone has really verified yet whether the SE will overclock well, although I have to say I rather doubt it.

The 9800SE (with 256-memory bus) is reasonably close to 9600Pro performance, often actually losing in performance to it. The 128-bit versions are just crappy.
