which hsf??

i'm gettin the iwill ka266r after much thought,,,and i want to know which hsf is the best for the mobo....which one's fit and quiet?? how much cooling does it provide??(i already have a frozencpu.com blizzard case..3 120mm fans!) any reply will be appreciated

I personally have the Globalwin FOP38 and it cools REALLY well. It's really loud though. (7000 RPM fan)
I have read that a HSF called the Thermoengine is one of the best. It's a metal/fluid center with fins extending from it.

I bought a Blizzard Heatsinks Tbird after reading this shoot-out of 19 heatsinks:

In that particular comparison, the Blizzard gave better results than all the others, including strong contenders from Alpha and Global Win. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any other multi-heatsink comparisons with the Blizzard.

Disadvantages of the Blizzard: It's $67, which makes it one of the more expensive heatsinks.

Also, the stock fan is a bit noisy, although much less so than the 7K RPM fan on the Globalwin.

My temps with the stock fan were so good that I've actually been able to replace it with a whisper-quet Panaflo from Case Etc (about $8.00). This only changed the temps by about 3 C, and they're sitll very low. I'm currently experimenting with two different speeds. Both Panaflo fans make less noise than my idling hard drive.

In the end, though, the choice of heatsink is very personal. You need to know how hot you expect your system to get, how much room you have on your MB, how much you're willing to spend, and how important noise is to you.

Hey, here's one worth consideration, the Thermoengine. It's been reviewed at Hardocp and Anandtech, and I agree with the results. It's outperformed both the Kanie HedgeHog and the GW FOP38 in my setup. I'm running a 1.2 T-bird at 8.5x158 on my KK266R, with temps at 27~30 C, depending upon load, with an ambient temp of 24 C.

They go for $29 with a stock fan, or $39 with a delta. Azzo is the only source with them currently, but I'm sure other places will have them soon. Here's a link to their sale page: http://www.azzo.com/test2/cooling.html .

Btw, I'm running mine with the delta fan, the stock fan was a little too small for the job

And while I find the results for the Delta'ed Thermoengine interesting, I also wish he would have posted results for the stock model, too.

I know the Delta gives great results, but I just can't stand the noise.

By the way, byungkuk, a good strategy might be to buy a heatsink that has both great thermal characteritics and a removable fan. That way, you can replace the fan with something either more powerful or less noisy, as you choose.

On the above Anandtech link, I believe all the Top 5 HSFs, except the Swiftech, have removable fans.

so i think i'll get the thermoengine....should i buy stock and replace with a panaflo??how much performance is degraded by changing the fan?? and this fan fits on a ka266r??...one last question??what about the taisolcgk742092??it looked pretty good on the anandtech and tomshardware hsf comparions...

Check out the Swiftech MC462 or the Noise Control Silverado (if price is not a major factor) @ http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q1/010306/index.html .... it seems there a heatsink roundups galore these days - lots of new products on the market.

The Swiftech seems to be a better alternative than the Blizzard .... it has the copper baseplate to draw heat better but aluminum fins to disperse it better ... nice concept and it looks to be of fine build quality.

Well, I haven't tried the taisol yet, and as good as the swiftech 462 performs, $80 plus an extra $10 for the optional rheostat, plus shipping... That puts it somewhere in the $100 zone, a little high for an air-cooled heatsink IMO.

The thermoengine works great on my KK266R, with the 60x60x25mm Delta "turbo-fan-of-doom". If noise were a consideration, either the panaflo, sunon, or ystech 60x60x25 should work as a good alternative without as much noise. Millisec sells fans at a reasonable price, I believe that you might find one to suit you here: http://millisec.safeshopper.com/52/cat52.htm?364 , they have three different 60x25mm fans for sale, although if you want the delta, it's cheaper to get it at Azzo.

The stock fan that comes on the thermoengine is only60x60x10mm, and although quiet, just doesn't provide enough air to really do the job for oc'ing.

It's a pretty good heatsink for the money, and provided significantly better cooling on my setup, over the alpha 6035, GW FOP38, and Kanie HedgeHog. I have four oc'ed systems in use at home right now, so these heatsinks are all in use, and are by no means poor performers. It's just that the best performer (at the moment, that's the thermoengine) is being put to use where it's needed most, and that's on the oc'ed T-bird.

Anyway, didn't mean to write a book here, after all, it's just a heatsink, but I hope some of this is useful.......

I've tried the L1A and the M1A. I bought one of each.

The specs for the M1A are 14ish CFM, 28 dbA. That's the one I'm using currently.

The only thing I don't like about the Panaflos are their lack of an RPM sensor. I spliced on a 3-pin connector so I could hook it to the MB fan header, but it turns out that none of those Panaflos support RPM sensing.
