I am not sure if the SPD problme is the RAM. I spoke to Crucial and the ASUS baord incorrectly read mine as CAS=3 while I have CAS=2 RAM. Crucial says they are getting alot of A7V133 owners with same problme, they swwear they have not changed the way they program their SPD and are collecting info to work with ASUS to get ASUS to fix the problme. As the bugs seem to change with each BIOs version I suspect Crucial is correct and the problem is an ASUS problem.

    Question

I tried to read my ram (2x128MB hyundai) with ctspd in WinMe (A7V133 with bios 1002a). The ram that wasn't recognised by bios 1004 could not be detected at all!! ctspd gave an error when loading and showed "0" recognised sticks. My other ram that did work with 1004 (I used it to flash my bios from 1004->1002a) was able to be read by ctspd - no problems at all.

    Anyone have any ideas!?!?

Thanks for checking it out, problem is now solved.

There are many ram-sticks which are incompletely programmed, like ours. The producers have just put in the cas-settings, and not bothered to properly program checksums etc. 1004 bios probably reads the checksum-data, and upon error, simply cancels that slot. No RAM for us.

I'll e-mail ASUS with some excerpts from this thread and they should be able to fix it.

(You can probably get CTSPD to read your SPD-settings by manually choosing motherboard. A7V is newer than CTSPD, but selecting A7V should work.)

    Thanks Trym!!

Your insights into this problem have been most helpful. I can only hope that the A7V133 bios will able to correctly detect our ram in future releases. In the meantime, I have successfully moved to 1003a.

    Cool got back to 1002a...

    hi there,

i had with 1003 and 1004 a noticeable decrease in hd-speeds with both of my 46 gig ibm hd's (hdtach). they went under 70 mb/s buffered read, now i have more than 80 again... cause i flashed back to avu102a.awd...

and from time to time hdtach showed a _very_ bad neg. peak in its display when checking...

    anyone else?

    chill - noZ'
