I can't lock it because he wouldn't be able to update it, plus, I'm not sure if it's not so bad to leave it unlocked...I'll leave that up to the author.

    Stuck.

    Installing Memory Modules (Cont'd)

Q: How do i use Dual Channel?

To maintain 128-bit mode, with all three slots filled, each channel must have an equal amount of memory. For example, slots 1 should be filled with a 512Mb module, while slots 2 & 3 are populated 256Mb modules. If you were to use three modules of the same size, then only first two modules would be running in 128bit Dual Channel Mode. Example, using 3x 256Mb modules will have the first 512Mb running in 128bit Dual Channel mode, while the remaining 256Mb will be in 64-bit Single Channel mode.

Is this the general rule ?

I'm using Shuttle AN35 Ultra, and the manual says :

**Installing a DIMM in any single slot leads to 64-bit data transfer. TO ACTIVATE DUAL-CHANNEL feature, install DIMMs in any of the following config:
    - DIMM 1 & 3
    - DIMM 2 & 3
    - DIMM 1 & 2 & 3

It doesn't say anything about 1 module will be running in single-channel if using 3 x 256MB.
I'm using 3 x 256MB myself, and whenever I check with CPU-Z, and it seems to report all my memory slots to run in Dual-Channel mode.

So ??? What is the truth ?

I believe CPU-Z cannot report otherwise. It will say Dual channel for all once you have either of the three configs you listed. In actuality, 128bit can only be maintained if you got the same amount of memory in each channel.

I tried using 3 256MB sticks of Mushkin PC-3500 in my Abit NF7-S just to see if if would run in DC. To my surprise, and contrary to what I've heard many say was possible, it reports "DUAL CHANNEL ENABLED" during post.

I've been running it that way since.
