His capture in Mexico protects Laurean from facing the death penalty in the United States. Mexico's extradition policy prohibits U.S. officials from seeking capital punishment against fugitives turned over by Mexican authorities.
If Laurean chooses to fight extradition, it could take up to two years to return him to North Carolina, Hudson said.

^^Yeah. The death penalty that might be associated is gonna have to come off the table or hell never be sent back. I also read hes a duel citizen [US/Mexican] so that may complicate things further.

Hey, he's a member of the United States Military. If they don't hand over their Prisoner of War, they should be held to Geneva Convention rules...

Deal with the criminal charges later. Make Mexico release our Marine first. Heh.

Seriously.. I'm loathing the onslaught of pro-Bama coverage the MSM is going to unleash on us once the primary is over.

I like this "expert" they jammed in at the end:

Darryl Jenkins, an analyst who teaches airline management at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., said he didn't think it was necessary "to ground an entire fleet and inconvenience hundreds of thousands of people" when many of the inspections and maintenance jobs could have been done at night. He accused the FAA of swinging back and forth between being too cozy with the airline industry and being too rigid.
Having been an aircraft maintainer (jet mech) in the USAF for 6 years and being an FAA A&P licensed mechanic since 1992 I know a lil bit about aircraft maintenance. I'll always prefer to err on the side of caution if at all possible. This might have been a "stunt".. I do not know as I have not heard specifically what the fleet was grounded for. But I also know that flights do not stop when the sun goes down as this tool suggests.

Here is what gets me Scooter. All this seems just a tad convenient [that the airlines threatened with huge fines if they dont snap to] because of Congressional action a while back.
It smells like a "hit job" to me.

This is the last thing airline companies need right now. Whats the freaking point? Kill travel and the airlines?

Seems to me a better arrangement could have been made.

    Huge hit on the airlines.

And understand...if they were being weasels? Tough.
But it seems like a heavy handed deal by FAA.

100% valid points... no argument here. I just have not looked deeply into what the issues actually were. Might have been justified.. might not. But just think what would have happened if just one airframe failed at 35,000 feet while they were slowly doing "night" inspections and maintenance. I'd like to think they were simply erring on the side of safety. But it could just as easily been a stunt as you infer. Jury still out here..

**edit for better accuracy** just noticed I stated 40K feet.. most commercial airlines travel a between 30,000 and 35,000 feet.
